Tyler Clippard To Nationals For Albaladejo

A source at the Meetings tells me the Yanks are sending Tyler Clippard over to the Nats in a trade for minor league reliever Jonathan Albaladejo.  Ah here we go, the Washington Post now has this one.

Clippard, a righthanded starter, turns 23 in February.  He's said to be a "finesse righty with a plus curve."  A move to the NL and a rotation spot means things are looking up for him.

Albaladejo is a 25 year-old who did a nice job in relief at Triple A and with Washington last year.  The Nats had snagged him as a minor league free agent.

You've got to like this move for the Nats, even if it seems small.

uhh who cares?

Clippard should start for the Nats...

Ohh right this is the Nationals. The team with the worst starting rotation in baseball. Okay so maybe it does matter. My mistake.

Nationals are active

trying to lose that AAAA team rating

Barry Svrluga has heard the same thing: Nats Note: A source with knowledge of the situation said the Nationals traded reliever Jonathan Albaladejo to the New York Yankees in exchange for right-hander Tyler Clippard, pending physical examinations of both players. The 22-year-old, who went 3-1 with a 6.33 ERA filling in for the Yankees this year, has a 3.52 ERA over five minor league seasons. He should immediately be a contender for Washington's rotation. Bowden did not return messages seeking comment on the deal. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/03/AR2007120302283_2.html)

hmm think Albaladejo could be in the pen for the Yanks when the season starts? His callup looked pretty good in 07...

Maybe he and Britton will actually get a chance in 2008. The Yankees may yet have the heaviest bullpen in baseball.

Clippard has shown spots of potential and could someday be a decent #3-4 type. A team like the Nationals needs to build its rotation depth and they sold high on a young reliever...which is something the Yankees needed. Good deal for both.

Clippard isn't that bad. He should be fine in the NL, a back-end starter. The Yanks just had no place for him since he wasn't going to start with Hughes/Joba/IPK/Horne + more coming.

Alba-whatever I know nothing about.

Albaladejo looks great for the Yankees to open the season. His triple A and double A ball numbers are great, not to mention 14.1 innings of 1.88era in the majors

Tyler Clippard is Ian Kennedy.

"Tyler Clippard is Ian Kennedy."

No not really, Kennedy can repeat his mechanics and has a fastball and 3 other pretty good pitches. Clippard does not have that, but he does have some potential, I think he was a good pick up for the Nats, and I wish him well.

"Tyler Clippard is Ian Kennedy. "

Uhh no. Not even close.

jim bowden is quietly putting together a fine offseason. he snatched up milledge and dukes for crap, now clippard. these guys could turn out to be bargains if they play out right

i doubt it, but i wonder if he would put zimmerman on the market after cabrera is dealt. the loser in the m-cab sweepstakes (dodgers or angels) would probably serve up a nice bounty for him if they dealt him. but that's just thinking out loud on my part

we do appreciate the job you do on here tim. this is our life during the winter meetings haha. thanks man

"i doubt it, but i wonder if he would put zimmerman on the market after cabrera is dealt."

I think most people around Washington are expecting the Nationals to build around Zimmerman as their key offensive cog, so I'd be shocked if he was moved. He would certainly carry with himself a huge bounty, but Bowden would have to be completely blown away to make a move.

ok washington gm !!! who are you and what did you do with bowden ?

ive been following the nats closely and jim bowdens always been an underrated gm. besides linking guzman to a 4 yr deal hes done pretty well in all other transactions. milledge was a steal, and getting lopez and kearns for next to nothing was an awesome trade also.

It almost looks like Bowden is cherry picking off the big teams for guys who have potential but don't have a shot of getting PT for various reasons and giving the big team a bit player who can fill a specific role. Any one trade alone he's made doesn't make that much difference, but if he keeps trading pennies for dimes, they might finally add up to something good. Go Bowden!
