« Twins Wanted Wang/Kennedy For Santana? | Main | Rockies Still Talking Long-Term With Hawpe »
According to MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince, the Indians have signed reliever Jorge Julio to a minor league deal. He'll join a battle for the team's one open 'pen spot.
Julio at least has relative youth and velocity on his side. He turns 29 in March. He had a 5.23 ERA in 62 innings in '07, posting an 8.1 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9. Control and home runs allowed have often been a problem for Julio.

COL getting a compensation pick for losing Jorge Julio via FA...yet another example of how the compensation system is flawed beyond belief.

Actually, would a team still get compensation if the player didnt make the 25-man roster? Never really heard anything about that possibility ~ but this will be such a case I imagine. If he doesnt make the 25-man, then there actually isnt a ML-Contract in place ~ no ML-Contract could very well mean no compensation...

if they do get a compensation pick it isn't coming from the Indians...no way Julio was a type A FA and that is the only way a team loses a pick for signing someone. If he is a B then the Rockies get a sandwich pick. More to the topic, I like this signing, as was proven last year for the Tribe you can never have too many arms to fill out the pen.

Huh, seems Tim changed the topic around ~ it once mentioned Julio being a Type-B...
Anyway Grimace; yeah, agree... Nothing to lose making a signing like this, and we never know if it will turn into another Howry/Sauerbeck/Sikorski/Fultz type ~ all scrapheap signings who vary from serviceable to great production for the club…

Good. The O's might hit some home runs this year.
