The Red Sox signed free agent Terumasa Matsuo, who was pitching in a Japanese independent league. I have no idea what the 26 year-old pitcher is capable of.
Tracy Ringolsby says the Giants really want to move Ray Durham and Dave Roberts, and will pick up some salary to do so. Durham makes $7.5MM in '08. Roberts gets $6.5MM in each of the '08 and '09 seasons.
You know, that isn't THAT bad a price for Roberts, given that he is right around Juan Pierre at the plate, with a bit more power and probably a better glove. I do think that moving Durham should be a priority, as he has seen a major drop off in skill. Then again, I don't see how much they could get for him.
I use this site if I want to look up info on Japanese, of even Koren & Chinese players quite often. They seem to update constantly with links and info, plus give stats for the players. You can see that they already have a page up for Matsuo, updated with his BoSox contract and some links…
I'd be shocked if the Giants found any takers for Ray Durham. There aren't exactly many teams with a need for a crappy hitting, crappy fielding, expensive, aging, second baseman/
Roberts cold find a home because he's capable of being a decent leadoff hitter and fielder. He still holds some value as a baseball player. Maybe not at 2/13, but I could definately see a team being interested at 2/8
it's not much but here's some info on the japanese guy http://soxprospects.blogspot.com/2008/03/sox-ink-japanese-indy-league-righty.html

Very good Q&A here. Cashman was very candid and thoughtful in his answers here...

I really don't understand why Durham is batting 5th today, ahead of Aaron Rowand.

Who would you rather have, Juan Pierre or Dave Roberts? Pierre would have to be more expensive, I imagine.
