Cueto is FILTHY. I watched him pitch last night... Can't wait to see Bailey if he really is better than Cueto...

Heh... Can't blame Ricciardi for trying.

If Bailey was better than Cueto he would of been pitching last night.

Cattalanotto for Cueto?
Rios for Lincecum?
If I was GM and J.P. called me, I'd just hang up!

Catalanotto for Cueto would have been a few years ago when Cueto was prob still in A ball.
It just shows good scouting on JP's part.
Im so glad Rios for Lincecum didn't go through. I have a bet that the Giants will only score 250 runs this year and Rios would def of screwed up my chances.

i think it would have been a pretty good deal
imagine the jays rotation if we had cueto =O

Can I just throw out a what if the Cueto and Lincecum deals had gone through and those players developed to become what they are today..
Halladay, Burnett, McGowan, Lincecum, Cueto.
And thats with Marcum, Chacin and Litsch to spare.
Can you say 2008 A.L. East Champs?

I can Scribble, I have been on the BJ bandwagon since spring training. Zito, I wouldnt trade Rios for Lincecum anyway, that trade isnt lopsided at all, let alone as lopsided as you make it seem.

And that is without Lincecum and Cueto. The jays are for real.

I gotta agree with nrmax88 and say that Rios for Lincecum was far from an unfair trade.
Lincecum is a potential ace, but until he proves he can go the distance, pitching well for 200+ innings and 30 starts, he's still not a given. At this point he could still end up being a nobody.
Considering that Alex Rios is maybe the best defensive right fielder in baseball, and may be on the heels of a breakout season offensively, that'd make him a complete stud. If you could get a 26 year old stud who plays incredible defense, and the cost was simply one young player, then that deals unlikely to be lopsided. Now if Lincecum pitches 200 innings of 3.70ish ERA ball this year, then the trade becomes far more in favor of Toronto. But Rios could easily pop like 30 homers and bat .320, which would make him arguably(!) the best right fielder in baseball.

So Scribble ~ Linc *could be…*, but Rios *could be…* so its fair? That about cover it?
Posted by: darkstar1661 | April 10, 2008 at 01:25 AM
You guys are dreaming. The '08 Jays are too unbalanced to win 90 games, let alone the 94 to 98 it will take to win that division. Their pitching is good (not outstanding until Burnett throws 150+ innings, McGowan justifies the hype, and Litsch and Marcum show they're able to go a whole season as above average SPs), but their hitting just doesn't hold a candle to the Sox, Yanks, or Rays. Rios/Wells/Thomas is pretty scary, but there are huge offensive holes at the other corners even if Rolen ever makes it to 100%, and you've got David Eckstein leading off for Pete's sake. Sure, maybe they only give up 4 runs a game if they find a closer and all the other bullpen pieces repeat their career seasons from '07, but they won't score 700 runs, either.

"So Scribble ~ Linc *could be…*, but Rios *could be…* so its fair? That about cover it?"
Yeah essentially. The differences though are interesting. Lincecum *could be* an ace, which is worth far more than a stud right fielder. But the odds of him reaching that ceiling are far lower than the odds that Rios becomes a stud.
It pretty much depends on how much risk you're willing to take and the makeup of your team.
I'm just saying its a far deal because both players *could be* special, and while one player could be more special, the other player is more likely to be special. Jeez this is getting weird
