« Jocketty Names Five Untouchable Reds | Main | Denny Bautista Designated »
All of these "team X scouts team Y" type reports should be taken with a grain of salt, because scouting does not necessarily imply trade interest. But hey, this is MLB Trade Rumors.
Paul Hagen of the Philadelphia Daily News says the Phillies sent special assistant Charley Kerfeld to watch the Brewers play the Blue Jays. Hagen notes that Kerfeld may have observed Ben Sheets and A.J. Burnett.
Jayson Stark told us Thursday that the Brewers would have to be "way out of it" before making Sheets available. But Burnett might be fair game, and Stark said the Phillies have already kicked the tires on him. Stark said the Phils are also eyeing Bronson Arroyo and Jarrod Washburn. Jim Salisbury believes the best acquisition the Phillies could make is an effective Brett Myers.

"Stark said the Phils are also eyeing Bronson Arroyo and Jarrod Washburn."
Pat Gillick feel bad for the Mariners? Trying to help his old team out? Maybe he wants that job again for '09.

I really can't see the jays dealing Burnett at this point, I mean it would be a bad sell low move.

"Jim Salisbury believes the best acquisition the Phillies could make is an effective Brett Myers."
And then he rode by the chocolate lake on his candy unicorn in fantasy land.
Sorry ... sorry. Brett Myers seriously killed my fantasy team, is all. I'm sure he's a wonderful guy.

You draft him 4th overall or what?

I don't know if it will be to PHI, but I think Burnett will definitely be moved somewhere. He could be more appealing to some teams than Sabathia based on price, and there will always be GMs seduced by his ability. Plus TOR is basically done and Burnett can/will opt out after the season

ArodSucksAtLife, just to inform you about Washburn, he's dropped his ERA, 1.16 runs per 9 IP since the May 25th start in NY. He's had three starts last 6 IP with 2 or less ER, 1 start of 5.1 IP with 4 ER surrendered. In his most reason start Jarrod should've got out of the game with 1 ER given up, but they ran him out to the mound in the 7th with 95 pitches thrown or something like that through the first 6 IP. In other words his ERA should've been 3.08 through his last 4 starts, but it's been 3.47, either way that's top notch and even when he didn't have his best stuff he only fell 2 outs and 1 ER short of a Quality Start.
I'm not saying he's the best pitcher in the world, God knows that's not the case, but he's a solid option for team with the Phillies offense and starters with 5.00+ ERAs littering the staff. As a Mariners fan, I'll take Myers for Washburn straight up... We like dysfunctional players and have had good success with them. In fact, we like wife beaters specifically, ask Julio Mateo about that! Seriously though, both pitchers could use a change of scenery and Washburn has pitched markedly better than the beginning of the year and his ERA should be lower if not for some bad calls by the sh*tty umpires. Don't mean I want him though.
