According to Roch Kubatko of the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles designated pitcher Steve Trachsel for assignment today. The move was expected, given Trachsel's 8.39 ERA and 0.59 K/BB in 39.6 innings this year.
The Sun's Jeff Zrebiec talked with Trachsel this spring and got the impression that he'd retire if the Orioles let him go (unless another team puts him in the rotation).

As a Cubs fan, I could have told you he was finished a year ago.

I hope Trax does retire, I mean he is clearly done.

This guy is totally Padres fifth-starter material.

Sorry, but damn...that guy has been the biggest waste of a rotation slot... The O's have been talking about going down to 12 pitchers (instead of 13) and I was worried they'd send Liz back down or take starts away from one of our young kids. This is a great move if only to free up roster space. Buh-bye Trax; we hardly knew ya.

As an Orioles fan, I was hoping he would perform well enough this year to dupe the Cubs into trading for him again. Oh well.

“Dontrelle Willis has been optioned to Single-A Lakeland on Tuesday, according to the AP. Willis has proven to be one of the biggest disappointments among off-season signings in the league, as he has allowed 13 runs and 21 walks over 11.1 innings this season”
Anyone need an expensive starter with absolutely horrendous control problems?

Long Island Ducks/Newark Bears will surely be making calls.

It was truly a miracle that the Orioles got anything of value when Trax was this close to being DFA-ed last year.

I wouldn't mind giving him another shot. Send Pelfrey down to the minors. He did win 15 games for us in '06 but after that NLCS start I think the chances are slim.

"As a Cubs fan, I could have told you he was finished a year ago."
As a Met fan, I could have told you that 2 years ago.
