« Arroyo For Victorino Rumor Is Bogus | Main | Sabean Explains Giants' Trade Strategy »
According to Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com, the Indians have designated reliever Joe Borowski for assignment. Rick Bauer was designated as well in the bullpen shakeup. The Indians will now move to a committee approach for the ninth innings.
Borowski, 37, battled injuries en route to a 7.56 ERA in 18 appearances. Maybe the Marlins could bring him back and try to get something out of him.

Wow, we heard this was a possibility, but it still surprises me. Last time we got ride of a closer, and instead tried to find internal options, it set a couple kids a year or two back in their progress. Not sure I agree with this move, but hey, his stuff has looked really bad of late and they know better…
Ten days to trade him now right? Wonder if we will manage to get some new tires for the BP car…

Today is a Holiday for Indians fans. And, oh by the way, it's also the 4th of July. No ill will toward JoBo but his time was over.

This is a no-brainer move, you're not going to get MLB players out with an 85 mph fastball. After he blew the save against Boston, it was apparent his stuff was done.
I wouldn't say Fausto was set back a year or two... he won 19 games the following year. But it was nightmarish trying to find someone to fit the role after Wickman. I think this situation is different, though, having Kobayashi available. He is Japan's all-time saves leader, so he has the mentality for it. We probably won't be throwing a kid out there.

At least for next year there are some young closer candidates within the system. I'd like to see Newsome, Stevens or Sipp get a low pressure audition at some point this year.

I wonder when the last time was someone that was expected to compete for a title, DFA'd their "closer".

Whew, I can stop taking nitro pills in the 9th now. As for what the Indians do now I think it is time Stevens was promoted. Let Newsome get a little more seasoning at Buffalo before bringing him up. And Sipp has no stats listed for the last two seasons on Baseball Cube, has he really been injured all that time?

Some sucker (Detroit?) will give him another chance. I hope the Fish stay away from him and pursue LaTroy Hawkins instead. I can dream, can't I?

Nah man, I was actually thinking more along the lines of guys who were rushed/pushed a bit like Cabrera (Fernando, oh how we miss you...), Slocum, Mastny, our old buddy Jason Davis, etc ~ the whole experiment was just so damn painful to watch… :/
And yeah, having Kobayashi makes it a bit better, but “committee approach for the ninth innings” doesn’t sound encouraging. Betancourt having his own problems leads me to really worry about Perez and Lewis at this point, and fear for anyone who might get a call…
“And Sipp has no stats listed for the last two seasons on Baseball Cube, has he really been injured all that time?”
Sipp has 5 relief appearances on the year (3 in RK, 2 in A+). So far he’s at a perfect 6 IP with 4 K (no BB or Hits allowed yet.) Probably wont see him till sometime next year though, not sure how strong his arm will stay being fresh off his TJ surgery/rehab and they will most likely take it fairly easy on him... (check BB-Ref, BaseballCube is slow on MiLB numbers)

That has got to be the shittiest dream I have ever heard of. You'd be better dreaming to catch AIDS.

Funny. Greg Maddux does.
