To make room for Lastings Milledge, the Nationals designated catcher Johnny Estrada for assignment yesterday. Estrada, 32, signed a one-year $1.25MM deal with the Nats in January. He hit .170/.200/.170 in 55 plate appearances, hobbled by a right elbow injury much of the season.
Estrada doesn't want to go to the minors, and talked about being ready to go home. It seems unlikely that a contender will pick him up.

Would Estrada make sense for the Marlins?

No. Estrada doesn't make sense for anybody. He's gone from all bat and no glove to no bat and no glove.

Probably right

He wasn't DFA'ed because the Nats have 3 other catchers. He was DFA'ed because he's 40 pounds overweight and can't hit, walk, field, throw or run. He's one of the more worthless players in baseball, just ask any fan of the Brewers or Nationals (I won't say Braves or Diamondbacks because he had at least one good season with both).
