AL MVP should go to Miguel Cabera
Posted by: worldchamps2000 | September 23, 2008 at 02:07 PM
.294 .353 .896 36 125 in 654 PA
vs.
.303 .393 .972 35 101 in 582 PA.
A-Rod is clearly a better MVP candidate over Miggy.

Kemp is a natural CF with his skill set (speed + athleticism + arm). Additionally, since they already have a natural RF in Ethier, it makes sense for them to keep Kemp in CF anyway. The OF defensive numbers for the Dodgers are largely skewed by the GB/K heavy staff.
Lowe - GB machine
Kuroda - 50%+ GB rate
Billingsley - 40%+ GB rate
The Dodgers' 3 top pitchers are all GB pitchers, with Bills also having big K numbers. That means fewer chances to up the +/-, RF, etc. of the outfielders.

any chance of a randy winn to the yankees deal working out? I dont think the Giants would ask for too much in return.. maybe a spare infield prospect if available.
Posted by: putmeincoach | September 23, 2008 at 04:08 PM
Why do Yankees fans always think other teams will just give away their players? Why would the Giants just give you their most valuable offensive asset?
Posted by: The Juice | September 23, 2008 at 04:25 PM
Kemp makes alot of sense for the Yankees, but what would the Dodgers want? Say Cano for Billingsley and Kemp? or Loney and Kemp?
Then the Yankees could sign Orlando Hudson.
If they Don't sign CC, I would like to see Lowe, and Oliver Perez while re-signing Moose. a rotation like
Wang
Billingsley
Moose
Perez
Lowe
would be a very solid rotation. then the other problem is 1B and LF/DH.
1B- Ryan Howard, I would give the Phillies; Jackson,Hughes and Corona.
DH- Manny. Simple as that he
could be the Yankees RBI man.
Lineup-
1.Damon-LF
2.Jeter-SS
3.A Rod-3B
4.Howard-1B
5.Manny-DH
6.Posada-C
7.Kemp-CF
8.Nady-RF
9.Hudson-2B
Great lineup from up to bottom.

haha chris im a huge yankee fan and those are just rediculous trades. your falling into the stereotype of yankee fans who think their players can get anyone and everyone.

"Why do Yankees fans always think other teams will just give away their players? Why would the Giants just give you their most valuable offensive asset?"
if that was directed to me, I hate to break it to you, but I am a Giants fan. The Giants have no need for Winn.. infact they have a need to get rid of him. He is hitting well, which will help them get rid of him, but Schierholtz should be the starting RF for the Giants in 08.
If the Giants can find someone to take on Winns salary, AND get something of some value in return, then great.. if not.. salary relief would be fine for me.

"Kemp makes alot of sense for the Yankees, but what would the Dodgers want? Say Cano for Billingsley and Kemp? or Loney and Kemp?"
Are you insane? Cano wouldn't net Billingsley straight up, let alone adding Kemp into the mix. Hell, Cano wouldn't bring Kemp or Loney straight up.
"if that was directed to me, I hate to break it to you, but I am a Giants fan. The Giants have no need for Winn.. infact they have a need to get rid of him. He is hitting well, which will help them get rid of him, but Schierholtz should be the starting RF for the Giants in 08."
Why not have Schierholtz play 3B, Sandoval roving between 3B, 1B and C, Winn between RF and LF?

I haven't seen a legit argument where Alexei would be a better ROY pick than Aviles. If you aren't making your argument with statistics, I don't know what you are using. (And PLEASE don't say, "Do you even WATCH the games??")
Aviles has been the better hitter looking at VORP (or, more simply, OBP). He's been the (far) better fielder at a tougher position using plus/minus data.
If you simply watched Alexei and enjoyed his season, that just isn't enough for him to beat Aviles. I did not say Alexei wasn't a good player or a great signing. He's just had a worse 2008 than Aviles by almost all metrics.
Also, if your respect for a person is decided based on their ROY opinions...OK then. Pretty lame criteria to judge another person, but that's you.
Posted by: Tim Dierkes | September 23, 2008 at 07:17 PM
I think the biggest argument against Aviles is the lack of games played. While it isn't the guy's fault, he will just inch over 100 games played this year, which really isn't much for a non-pitcher to be considered for ROTY. Remember that even with his great year last year, Braun was hurt by his games played.
Posted by: AA | September 23, 2008 at 07:29 PM
Alexei has 59 more PAs...that is not enough to push him past (or even close) to Aviles.
Posted by: Tim Dierkes | September 23, 2008 at 07:35 PM
It's pretty much fact at this point that OBP contributes far more to run scoring that any of the stats you named. Isn't that what offenses are trying to do, score runs? Also we can't use an archaic stat like fielding percentage to judge defense.

'Why not have Schierholtz play 3B, Sandoval roving between 3B, 1B and C, Winn between RF and LF?'
because nate cannot handle 3b.. that is why he was moved.

"if that was directed to me, I hate to break it to you, but I am a Giants fan. The Giants have no need for Winn.. infact they have a need to get rid of him."
If getting rid of above average CF's for salary relief is your philosophy I apologize. I guess I need to re-examine the league because I didn't know that CAPABLE CF'S with VORPs at 29.4 and WARPs above 8 grow on trees.
I guess SF is starving for cash so they may as well just toss away their best player.

'I guess SF is starving for cash so they may as well just toss away their best player.'
Couple of phrases for you: Youth Movement and Rebuilding
let the kids play, winn is counter productive to their development. Id be all for trading Molina too, except that he has value in developing the young pitching staff.
Posted by: putmeincoach | September 23, 2008 at 11:38 PM
Trading away valuable players for valuable prospects or assets makes sense, yes, but giving away your best player who still has excellent value is stupid. If Randy Winn can play CF, which many believe he can, he is an above average player, and he deserves more than an "excess" infielder the Yankees have.
I'm sorry to be rude, but you don't know what you are talking about if you think trading Randy Winn for nothing is productive. If the Giants want to maximize production they should platoon their OF gaining valuable at bats for Schierholtz (who I think will be above avg. given a chance), and Lewis. Just giving away valuable assets is extremely dumb, even if they are blocking younger players.
Furthermore, the $ is no issue to the Giants as they are one of the more wealthy franchises in the Majors. Granted payroll is down right now, but there is no point to overextend yourself if you aren't a competitor. However, you still need to put a decent product on the field, and Winn helps in that regard.
Posted by: The Juice | September 23, 2008 at 11:53 PM
Winn has NO value to the current Giants organization. He is but a road block. Maybe a shiny, nicely decorated roadblock, but a road block none the less.
If a team will give more for Winn, then by all means, go for it. Im not stupid... if team A offers a B level prospect, and team B offers a C level, I will take team A... I just feel, because believe it or not I like the guy, that randy winn deserves to be on a winning team. The Giants will not contend, and it is pointless to have him take at bats away from Lewis or Schierholtz.
Everyone that knows anything about Bochy knows that if Winn is on the team, Schierholtz will continue to get the shaft. Nate deserves to start, and it is in the giants best intrest if he does just that.
Posted by: putmeincoach | September 24, 2008 at 12:17 AM
I know you probably don't follow my posts, but for about 2 years I have been promoting the "youth movement." I agree that the young guys deserve AB's and Winn may take them, but Winn also deserves them. He is ONE of the main reasons the Giants aren't the laughing stock of the league.
Why don't you complain about Dave Roberts?
Posted by: The Juice | September 24, 2008 at 12:28 AM
Alot of Cain trade offers.
Cain and Pichardo for Jose Reyes!
The Giants are looking for an impact infielder and the Mets need rotation help with only Santana,Pelfrey and possibly Maine being locks.
I know it's far fetched.but what do you think Tim?
Posted by: G4LBB25 | September 24, 2008 at 09:59 AM
i do complain about roberts, I just dont see him as a very tradeable person. I hope someone will take him, but I think he is someone that the Giants will have to eat sallary on. I know they are not hurting for money by any means, I just want to save money for a couple years, invest it in international signing/draft bonuses.
Posted by: putmeincoach | September 24, 2008 at 11:36 AM
"Also we can't use an archaic stat like fielding percentage to judge defense."
That really depends on the position. Fielding percentage can be a valuable stat at 1B where other metrics will always be blown up.
