| Padres Were "Livid" When Giles Nixed Trade »
By Coley Ward [September 6, 2008 at 3:34pm CST]
Here's some loose change found underneath the cushions of the hot stove couch:
- Kenny Rogers was scratched from his start and Buster Olney wonders if Rogers will retire after this season.
- Philly Inquirer columnist Bob Ford says the Phillies didn't do enough to improve the team before the trade deadline. Umpbump thinks Brett Myers has been a great trade deadline pickup – and the Phils didn't have to surrender a thing.
- The Royals are hoping the contract issues surrounding first baseman first round draft pick
Eric Hosmer are resolved in
time for him to participate in the Arizona Instructional League. Hosmer remains in limbo as a result of a grievance filed by the
players’ union. The central issue is whether the Hosmer and Pirates draft pick Pedro Alvarez agreed to terms prior to the 11 p.m. deadline on Aug. 15.
- Right-hander Greg Reynolds was officially added to the
Rockies roster on Friday. His addition was delayed because he started
Monday and needed the off time before he could be used in a game. The Rockies are unbelievably only five games back in the NL West.
- Adam Dunn says winning will be his number one priority when he signs with a new team this winter. Sorry, Pirates fans.

Dunn wants to be on a winning team in 09. He should sign with the Yanks.

If he signs with the Yankees, he gets the money and the winning mentality.

Why do the yanks need another poor defender DH type.
Posted by: metsfan | September 06, 2008 at 03:47 PM
Nsh, Yanks got enough outfielders. But i would look at him to play first. He'll be cheaper than Texiera.
Posted by: yankfan1 | September 06, 2008 at 03:59 PM
Can he play first?
Posted by: yankfan1 | September 06, 2008 at 03:59 PM
Ehh... it'd be a risk to have Dunn play at first. He has a worse fielding percentage and zone rating than Giambi, and at least Giambi scoops up balls pretty well. Sure, he has the power the Yankees would like, but I think they need a little more defense for their aging infield.

for all the above five reasons ... i hope the yankees do sign dunn!!

Yankees need young hitters!!

"He should sign with the Yanks."
Did you read the article? He wants to be with a competitive team, not a team that is about to fall to 4th place in their division.

If he goes to the Yankees it won't be because he wants to play for a winner in 09.

I would expect an improved Yankee team next year with better performances from their young guys and less injuries. And the fact that you know they are gonna spend some cash this winter.
I think it would be smarter to try and land a good young first baseman in a trade for the Yankees. They need someone who can keep the spot warm until Jesus Montero is ready because he's likely to end up at first.
Another guy that I think would make sense for New York is Salty. He's not going to be untouchable and he still has huge potential as a hitter. He could share catching and first base duties with Posada, as well as give them a solution when Jorge can't make it behind the plate anymore.
Posted by: scribbletone | September 06, 2008 at 05:49 PM
scribbletone- Would Salty be the 3rd catcher? Or would they get rid of Molina?
Posted by: YankeeFan4life | September 06, 2008 at 06:09 PM
Honestly they'd probably hold onto Molina because neither Posada nor Salty is much of a defensive player right now
Posted by: scribbletone | September 06, 2008 at 06:14 PM
Yea that is what i was thinking. Molina i think has like a 48% CS rate.
Posted by: YankeeFan4life | September 06, 2008 at 06:26 PM
He is a outstanding player deffensivly.
Posted by: YankeeFan4life | September 06, 2008 at 06:27 PM
themfightnwords- If you read the atricle above, Dunn said he wants to sign with a winning team. Every team in the MLB is considered competitive. If they were not trying to be competitive, why would they even play? Also, it's impossible to tell if the Yankees will be good,ok or bad in 2009 so dont jump the gun and start "hinting" that they will not be a winning team because of their position this year.

P.S The season isnt over yet.
Posted by: YankeeFan4life | September 06, 2008 at 06:38 PM
For the Yankees, the season is over.
Posted by: scribbletone | September 06, 2008 at 07:22 PM
Did I miss where Dunn and the Pirates were used in the same sentence before? What's up with the little jab at the end?

"P.S The season isnt over yet."
Your odds are less than half of a percentage point... your season is over, it's just waiting to become official. Deal with it.
"Every team in the MLB is considered competitive."
Except for the Royals, Mariners, Nationals, Pirates, Giants, etc. Also there's a big difference between competitive and winning. You can't call the Pirates under Littlefield a competitive team.
As for Dunn signing with the yankees... it actually makes sense if he's signed as a 1B/DH. Better defender than Giambi, great OBP... Just he'd make more sense if they install him as the #4 or #5 hitter to take advantage of his high OBP.
