« Offseason Outlook: Boston Red Sox | Main | Cards Not Likely To Acquire Peavy »
According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals have informed Mark Mulder's agent that they have chosen a $1.5MM buyout over his $11MM option. No one expected otherwise, given Mulder's shoulder woes the past few years.
Mulder's shoulder now checks out structurally; he's had two surgical procedures. So far the thumbs up from doctors hasn't translated to the mound.

Any chance he signs to a minor league deal similar to Bartolo Colon? What's a scouting report for him at this point?

Could be a nice pick up on the cheap. With some time off and some rehab maybe that shoulder starts to react.
Mulder,Benson and Garcia could be nice cheap alternatives over high priced free agents.

if the padres can waste a million on Prior, then i think a million to see what Mulder does wouldnt be too bad.
the padres dont have a lot of money(or any really...) to spend on any proven starters

I remember hoping the Yankees would get Mulder when they were still the "big 3" in Oakland.. he was my favorite of the three...

Baller--the White Sox are actually Mulder's home team (he grew up a ChiSox fan etc.), so that makes sense.
Would be fun to see him back in Oakland, a la Foulke this year, and I could see the Giants giving him a shot as a way to try and resusticate Zito a bit (reuniting him with his old buddy).

Mulder and Zito together with the Giants...that would be interesting.
I would love for Mulder to sign a minor league deal with somebody (he is a stud when healthy), and possibly reemerge as a force. I always liked Zito out of the Big Three the best, although they're all awesome (and I want to see resurgence, please).

He sure is a stud when healthy...but that was the past. Good Luck to whoever signs him...he'll be a good minor league reclamation project to those of you who dream of him being healthy again.
