« Blue Jays Rumors: Burnett, Manny, Ryan | Main | Elias Projections: NL Infielders »
Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune writes that Petco Park remains the preferred choice of free agent pitchers returning from injury. In particular, the agents for Mark Mulder, Mark Prior, Matt Clement, and Kevin Correia admit their clients have San Diego at the top of their list. If the Padres trade Jake Peavy, they'll have all kinds of uncertainty in the rotation and some payroll to play with.
A few more names from the injury bargain bin: Kris Benson, Bartolo Colon, Freddy Garcia, Mike Hampton, Jason Jennings, Pedro Martinez, Sergio Mitre, Carl Pavano, and Brad Penny.

I'd like to see the Pirates look into some of these guys specificly Pavano, Prior, Mitre, and Correia.

Nice to see so many pitchers want to come to San Diego but the question remains are they of any use to the Padres?
Prior we did this experiment
Clement didn't pitch at all last year
Mulder I don't know what's going on

I'd like to see them go after Correia the most, and then Mulder, and if he's willing to come cheaply, Prior. We need starters anyway whether we trade Peavy or not.

Wow, what a rotation. Just think, they could have the best DL team in baseball! Why doesn't the DL just go out and sign the pitchers and save the middle man?

mtzxc To expand on your point have DL form a team--and you could have Dr Arther Pappas as the manager. Have the team sponsered by Johnson and Johnson. And have the team randomly drug tested for Ibuprofen.

I'd like to see the Red Sox signing Brad Penny as a reclamation prject like they did last year with Colon...

Lol, I'm sure Prior prefers San Diego. he got $4M from them last year without making a single appearance.

One of these bargain bin hurties will sign with the Rangers on a 1 year 3-5 million dollar deal, just you watch. That's one way that JD has helped stock the minors - by gambling enough times to win a couple, and then cashing in with "flip" deals at the deadline.

Prior got $1MM.

I second that....
Prior got $1MM
He'll be back

That is a pretty ugly all injury pitching list for 2009. Clement, Prior and Pavano have shown since hitting the big money that they have -0- interest in pitching. Martinez and Hampton have nothing left, Mulder is a shell and Bartolo Colon looks like a 5'9" version of prince Fielder standing on the mound.
Not much left. Brad Penny, Freddy Garcia and the always injured kris Benson the only really decent walking wounded amongst this group.

sounds like the portland beavers might be pretty awful.
clement pitched at memphis this year and sucked.

You don't have to be super smart to figure it out. Come to San Diego, hang out for a year in some nice weather and zero pressure, throw the ball right down the middle and get fly outs, pad the stats, and then get a sweet contract to go play real baseball somewhere else. DUH.
