Cards Make Offer To Rhodes

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals made an offer to lefty reliever Arthur Rhodes.  Rhodes' agent says nine teams expressed interest, and a handful made offers.  More offers are forthcoming for the 39 year-old.

Cardinals GM John Mozeliak continues to hammer out the details of a contract with Trever Miller; he hopes to add two lefties to the pen.

Goold says the Cardinals are also considering two righthanded relievers in Brandon Lyon and Jason Isringhausen.  Three other teams have expressed interest in Isringhausen, who would like to regain his job as the Cardinals' closer.

The Cardinals remain in the mix for Edgar Renteria, and they'll be consulted before a deal is finalized with any other team.  They'll wait until after the December 1st deadline for offering arbitration.

id like to see if rhodes could get two years

What happened to the Cardinals interest in Will Ohman who seems to be a superior lefty-lefty guy...did he ask too much/too many years?

Miller and Rhodes sure would be a nice upgrade over Flores and Villone.

Before we ink Rhodes to any deal, I'd like to see what it would take to sign Will Ohman. Does anyone know what it would take to sign him? A combo of Miller and Rhodes would yes be a nice upgrade but a better upgrade would be Miller and Ohman. Also, I do not want to see Iffy, I'm sorry I mean Izzy back. I'd much rather see Trevor Hoffman in Cardinal Red.

I left this out but I also do not want Edgar Renteria back. I'd be very fine with him signing with the Giants. Bring back David Eckstein to play 2B and re-sign Felipe Lopez to be our SS. That and having Miles/Ryan as backups and we will be just fine. Then perhaps we could go after Derek Lowe.

They need to stay away from Eckstein and Brendan Ryan shouldn't even be on this team next season.

I'd like to have Ohman as well, but I'm assuming the price is much higher than the others. I'm not a big F. Lopez fan. He can hit a little, but he has no glove.

Not sure what the Cardinals are thinking with Isringhausen..he knocked us out of the playoffs in 2008.Who cares where or if he gets 300 saves? I agree with Cardsfan that Eckstein and Ryan are definitely not the answers in middle infield. I think Cards have lead on Renteria and I think he could be comeback player in a Cards uniform.

I say renteria and miles would be a good middle infield fit, with lopez being the bounce around guy. Get rid of ryan cuz he's a bum and dont even mention bringing eckstein because that's ridiculous. And it's great that we're going after these lefty relievers but we could always use another top of the line starter because who knows whats gonna happen with carpenter, we can't just rely on wainwright...
