What is the asking price for Street?

Richard Justice speculation is a load of crap, he's just blowing smoke to write an article. Next week he'll write an article about how the Stros should never trade Valverde he's too valuable!!

I too think Justice is a tool. Yeah caltx, you REALLY are dreaming! Grady is the best CF out there in my opinion.

Actually the Astros have been talking about moving Val since around the last day of the season..... I love Val BUT the Astros need to open up some cash. So the Astros might/ probably trade Val and Wiggy.... And the Indians do need a closer and 3rd baseman, Huston Street is more injury prone then Val..... Just saying.

Let's see. The Tribe missed Affeldt, Gregg is gone, and they won't pay for Kerry Wood. I believe Mr. Shapiro said the tribe will not be "complacent." If the Indians do land a big name player, I will eat my words.

Trever Miller to the Cards has been delayed...

The Astros need a catcher badly and the Indians need a closer, so why not Valverde for Victor Martinez and some pitching prospect.
What is Victor Martinez going to make next season? I would guess that Jose will make over $10 mil next season.

Astros need starting pitching more than a catcher...how about two of Adam Miller, Aaron Laffey or Scott Lewis for Valverde or all 3 if the Astros add Wigginton to the deal?
Posted by: Mistyck | November 20, 2008 at 05:17 PM
If the Astros were to trade Wigginton and Valverde, the Indians would have to include Laffey, (no one wants Sowers) Miller, and either Asdrubal Cabrera or Michael Brantley. Valverde had 44 saves last year and 47 the year before.

If the Indians are truly pursuing Hudson then that probably means that Peralta is the 3B. As far as Wigginton, I think the Indians would rather offer Blake some money instead of trading away prospects. As for closer, there is always Hoffman still out there, give him a two year deal and let Jensen Lewis set-up and prepare to be the next closer.

You guys do realize that if we trade both Wiggy and Valverde and get 3 of the Cleveland pitching prospects, we could ship 2 to San Diego for Peavy....
Posted by: Mistyck | November 20, 2008 at 05:31 PM
The Astros need pitching... And if they offer Wiggy and Val hopefully the Astros will get Lewis and a few more prospects.... And I think Val is probably one of the best " available" closers. Besides K-Rod, but would be cheaper then K-Rod.
I hate to lose Val, but maybe Paulino/Wright/ or Hawkins will be able to step it up if Val is traded.

"I hate to lose Val, but maybe Paulino/Wright/ or Hawkins will be able to step it up if Val is traded."
If any of those 3 guys are closing for the Astros, the Astros are doomed. Hawkins has proven in the past that he can't close.
Starting Pitching and catcher are the Astros biggest needs.
Also Hoffman closing in Cleveland would be fun to watch. He was bad at the ultimate pitchers park last year, imagine him in Cleveland.

Well I truely don't see the Indians trading and of their top tier prospects to for a couple of guys for 1 year . And the thought that anybody would think the Indians would trade one of baseballs best offensive catcher for a 1 year closer is laughable .
And the guy wanting Miller never happen.
Sowers and some second tier prospects maybe .
I say sign Omar for one year Hoffman for 2 and go with the starters we have for one year and see how some of the lower level prospects work through the system in 09 .
They will never match the length of contract to secure Hudson and a Street trade would demand to many of the top prospects that they arn't willing to trade so that will never happen.
I don't see the Indians doing anything earth shattering. IMO

Obviously we have the Astros fans posts here, let me bring the Tribe's point of view.
The Indians are looking to ship Ben Francisco, Franklin Guitierrez, and Trevor Crowe. We would be willing to include one young pitcher but it would have to be a great deal. The Tribe's biggest weakness is pitching so to ask for Miller, Lewis, and Laffey is just wishing.
Baseballnuts is right, you could get Sowers and some second tier prospects, if you really pushed you may get Laffey, but I doubt it. I would expect Shapiro going to the 'Stros with a package of Francisco, Guitierrez, Sowers, and lower prospects for Valverde. Shapiro's motto is "never pay for bullpen help", so dont get overexcited about the Tribe's interest.
Oh and the trading V-Mart thing, wow thats funny. Possibly the best hitter in the weakest position in baseball traded for Valverde lmao. I could see the Tribe parting with V-Mart, but you better blow them away b/c Shoppach is the one on the block.

Oh and I meant Francisco, Guit, Sowers, and lower prospects for Valverde, Wiggy. Like I said if you pushed you may get Laffey but I highly doubt it. And forget Miller, the Tribe love him and expect him to be the David Price of the bullpen this year. If you guys dont like that, Shapiro will prob. just walk. He always does.

i hate saying this but the yankees could be a good trading partner with v-mart if they feel that posada is not healthy enough to catch. a deal involiving cano and either hughes or kennedy might tempt shapiro, give or take additional lower prospects.
Posted by: azn | November 21, 2008 at 12:04 AM
I agree 100%. As I said, the Tribe will trade V-Mart for the right price. If the Yankees start throwing out names like Hughes and Cano I can't imagine the Tribe turning it down with Shoppach catching and Santana's play in AA.
