Another expected option decision - the Rangers picked up Hank Blalock's $6.2MM for '09. Blalock, 28, figures to DH and maybe play some first base for the Rangers next year, unless they trade him. Staying healthy has been the problem in recent years.

now trade him to the giants please.

A pretty obvious move considering you have a couple terrific options in him.
Option 1- DH
Option 2- 1st base
Option 3- Emergency 3rd baseman
And option 3 is strictly for emergency purposes only.
Basically if he can stay healthy and produce results he ultimately becomes july trade bait or 2 draft picks because he should become a type A free agent next year.

Giant bob,
You can have him. It will cost you a pitcher so who do you give up?

Would the Giants give up Sanchez for a package of Blalock, minor league 2B/SS Jose Vallejo and LHP Matt Harrison?

I don't know about giving up Sanchez...
Blalocks shoulder is kinda troubling. Sanchez contract vs. Blalocks is uneven.

Is the problem at 3B the balky shoulder? Is this supposed to be something that eventually goes away or is he most likely strictly a 1B/DH going forward with only spot duty at 3B?

clark, I was going to say no but Vallejo is an interesting add. Seems like the type of player (like Velez) that the Giants covet. I'd have to say, who knows with Sabean. The guy was talking about dealing Lince and Cain this time last year so I can't say that dealing Sanchez for that would be out of his scope if he feels that Harrison can be a decent ML starter and Blalock can still hit.

I watched Blalock play when he could this season and I saw there is still pop left in the bat, but I wonder if his shoulder isn't going the way of Jeff Bagwell's?

I expect they'll try to move Blalock only if they can't or don't move Salty & Max, since those guys would probably be decent DH types. But if they trade both Salty & Max, they'll keep Blalock and let him DH.
Blalock's had some real problems with the shoulder, including that wacky surgery 2 years ago where they had to remove a rib to ameliorate a nerve problem. He has shown he can still hit, though, and so the safe thing would be to just DH him. You can do a lot worse at DH than Blalock.
Regarding the Sanchez idea, I don't think they'd (SF) make that trade, and I also don't think the Rangers want to get rid of Harrison, who was really good in a few starts last season. That'd be kind of one step forward, one step backwards. And if Harrison went all John Danks on you & posted a great era in SF, the locals would definitely tar and feather JD. So I don't see that happening. I don't see them trading away any of their young pitching other than guys named Mendoza, Loe, Feldman, Littleton, or White.
I just don't see Texas and SF matching up well, since SF has Molina.
A better offer to me would be Blalock & a couple of throw ins - like Mendoza or Arias or Boggs - to TB for Sonnanstine.

That deal is insanity for Boston, but if I were Texas, I'd take that in a hot second.

SOX:
That trade would be great for you guys! But no way, dude. First, Texas already has their SS of the future in Andrus. So when he's ready to play in Arlington, which will probably not be until 2010, then Young will either move to 3rd or he'll be dangled as trade bait. So this kind of desperation move isn't necessary right now for Texas.
But more importantly, think about what kind of hitter Young is - to get both him AND Teagarden - in the top 10 best catching prospects right now in all of baseball - you'd have to give up a lot more than an old dude, a kid who has a lot of promise but hasn't proven anything yet, and another kid who played way over his head last year.
That ain't happening.

I thought the WHITE Sox would've made a move for him if they declined his option, but I doubt they'll try to trade for him unless spring training is coming up and they still don't have a viable option.
....Josh Fields does not count as a viable option.

I'd take that in a sec too.
Oh Blalock's career splits vs lefties and on the road are HORRIBLE.

Michael Young would be a terrible pickup for the Red Sox. His defense is bad, his offense was mediocre this year, I wouldn't trade Lowrie for Young straight up.

I was hearing that the Mariners were interested in Hank
