« A.J. Burnett Opts Out | Main | Tigers Eyeing Furcal »
According to Ed Price of the Newark Star-Ledger, the Yankees declined their options on Jason Giambi and Carl Pavano as expected.
With Giambi, the Yanks chose his $5MM buyout over his $22MM option. For Pavano, they chose a $1.95MM buyout over a $13MM option. Either player could re-sign for less, though it's not likely.

Finally we can get rid of the aging Giambi, bring on the Free Agents!

Klit Kommander,
I'm a diehard Yankees fan but theres NO CHANCE you're having that rotation, maybe a slight chance of CC AND Burnett, but def not Peavy. That's more like a fantasy rotation haha.

And another thing, why would you want Giambi back? He's in his later 30's and he doesn't produce AS much as he used to. You need younger talent, not the old, slow, bad defenders.

How many dumb Yankee fans are their in this World? Jeez...
That rotation is much more reasonable. It isn't just the money issue...it is the other team issue as well.
Zrosey really is getting pretty upset over this stuff...chill kid.

Zrosey, grow up kid. It's just baseball, no need to be a mental-case.

How is he ugly??? You cant even see him. LOL :)

FORGET GIAMBI!! He is an old, crappy, ONLY power, slow, and horrible defender that has no skill besides hitting homeruns. Go out and get Mark Texiera. He is young, has speed, GOLD-GLOVE caliber, power,CONTACT and has tons of talent. So Forget Jason Giambi and go out and sign Mark Texiera! The Yankees need him. Giambi is a big WASTE OF SPACE!!!!

a 5mm buyout for Giambi? Holy crap, his agent is god....or the GM that signed his is a moron. Probably the latter.

Los Yankees dominarán en 2009 e ir a la Serie Mundial y llevarse a casa los anillos.

Giambi has another massive skill - OBP. The guy is a walking machine.
I love how easily people discount a player who hits 30 HR's, takes 100 BB's, and is a good clubhouse presence. While declining the option was absolutely the right thing to do, Giambi will end up being a great signing for some team. He will give you 80%-90% of the production of a Tex but cost about 50% less.

Giambi at 2/24 would be a great re-sign.

I think Pavano to a team that desperately needs pitching like the Mets would make sense because it is hard to rely on rookie starters for a full year.

Please no Burnet. The guy has quite some DL history. Eventhough he has won 18 games last year, I don't want to take a risk with him.
