« Sox, Betemit Agree To Terms | Main | A.J. Burnett Rumors: Thursday »
I already linked to this Mark DiGiovanna piece in the Peavy Rumors thread, but I wanted to give it its own post as DiGiovanna also talks about other potential Angels targets that wouldn't be appropriate there. So let's take a look:

Let KRod go for Fuentes, brilliant.

Angels are almost certainly targeting Ibanez to play first base, where he's had some spot duty over the years with KC & SEA.
If they wanted an aging outfielder with those kind of numbers they would have exercised Garret Anderson's option.

Agree juiced - sounds like we are ready to give a 33 year old who lost the closer's job in COL $11 mil a year but wouldn't/couldn't offer $12-$13m/yr to a 26 year old who has the all-time single season saves record.
Brilliant.

If the Angels do not land Teix, what are their fall back options? Are they going to give the job to Morales? What about signing Giambi for cheap?
Posted by: Thirty5Thirty6 | December 11, 2008 at 07:21 PM
Saves are an overrated stat, as was K-Rod's 2008. Besides, they offered him, what like, a 3 year 45 million dollar deal, and he rejected it.

Thirty5 You are right the Angels fallback option if they did not sign tex would be giving the job to talented Kendry Morales to see if he can grow to his capabilities pretty much Casey Kotchman all over again I just hope the Angels sign Tex it is crucial.

Stoneman? Can anyone say Stoneman.. Angels need to step up and over pay for Tex then go after Peavey! They need to offer Tex 8-170m and trade Wood and Adenhart or whatever to land Peavey and quite this penny pitching crap.

I just don't get it the Angels will go 7years but not 8 for Tex what is this, the principle of the thing.

diddo dchillis dido They have overpayed for overated and worthless players why not overpay for a good one? The Angels have to go out for this guy I say they have to give him 8 years 170-180 million.

Sorry guys for the multi post for some reason the site locked up on me and created mulit's.

Do any Angel fans out there feel like going after Ibanez is effin ridiculous? Terrible defense, not even that great of a bat. I'd rather have Adam Dunn.
But I think they should go after Manny Ramirez if Teixeira signs elsewhere. Pony up and give him 3 or 4 years and his money. We need a clutch hitter and someone who can take down the Red Sox.
To be completely honest I dont think 4 years for Manny is even that big of a risk, you're going to get at LEAST 3 years of production, his numbers arent going down.

If Teixeira signs with Boston, they'll need to trade Lowell. The Sox need a catcher. Maybe acquiring Lowell from Boston wouldn't cost much when you fit the pieces together.
Lowell for either Napoli or Mathis and a minor league pitcher (AA or lower). There could be a fit there somewhere.

"I'd rather have Adam Dunn."
No. Keep Adam Dunn as far away from the Angels as possible. Not that he can't help many teams, but their style is all wrong for that guy.
"Lowell for either Napoli or Mathis and a minor league pitcher (AA or lower). There could be a fit there somewhere."
After what Napoli did at the end of the season, he has far exceeded Lowell in value.

AA I agree totally. Napoli is a possible stud in the making and noway I deal him for Lowell. I agree that Dunn would never fit the Halos style but I like Ibanez is not really much of an add. Angels need to pony up and get Tex and then deal for Peavy then they can make a legitimate run for the series (not just a playoff run).

yeah.. God forbid we change our style and add power and OBP, right?
Eff the Angels style. There.. I said it. They need to change what they do. Their "swing at every pitch and hope something falls" mentality might win a stupidly weak AL West, but it gets us NOTHING in October. It's time to balance the speed with power hitting and patience, and if Teixeira walks, Adam Dunn is the PERFECT FIT for the Angels.

but i do agree with both of you guys that Napoli is a stud.
and i think we all agree that he needs at least 140 starts next year.

I know Adam Dunn doesn't fit the Angels play style, but I like him way better than Ibanez. Their defense is just about equal, base running even goes to Dunn, hes stolen a few bases early in his career. And we all know that Dunn has the clear advantage in power numbers.
Again, this is all if they don't sign Teixeira. I don't see a problem with going 8 years/175-180 mil. They supposidly already have 7/160 on the table.
If they don't know, I'd really like to see Manny Ramirez with the Angels. I can't stress enough that I think he is the clutch hitter the Angels need. He would love to play in the AL and get a shot back at the Red Sox, he's the clutch bat we need in the playoffs and to get past Boston. He'd fit in well in the clubhouse too, we have alot of Dominican players, Guerrero, Aybar, Santana, and Arredondo would all get alogn with him. Plus I think guys like Napoli and Torii would enjoy him and be able to keep him in line.
It also said Boras might prefer Manny to the Angels, Boras' office is in Anaheim and he could keep a close eye on Ramirez.
Plan A - Teixeira
Plan B - I say get Manny
Posted by: spencer_hong | December 11, 2008 at 11:29 PM
Oh and I forgot to mention, signing Manny would also crush all those blue people up in LA
Posted by: spencer_hong | December 11, 2008 at 11:29 PM
IMO i think they should push hard to resign tex. After all vlad is getting older and isnt improving. If they can't maybe try manny ramirez for a couple of years, but stay away from adam dunn...he strikes out way too much and would slow down tht speedy angels lineup.
Posted by: kingfelix93 | December 12, 2008 at 12:36 AM
Ibanez to the Phillies for three years $30 million...
Posted by: MikeClarke | December 12, 2008 at 07:11 AM
So we have lost GA, Juan Rivera, Jon Garland (more of a win than a loss with him), K-Rod, and now possibly Teixeira. Angels need to make a splash or they once again will look like fools for yet another failure of an offseason. They're beginning to lose all their backup free agents so they NEED to push hard for Tex.
