Baldelli A Fit For Red Sox?
We've all heard the Rocco Baldelli-Red Sox rumors. Today Ed Price says the Sox are wary of Baldelli in that they'll need their fourth outfielder to be able to play the outfield for significant stretches.
Price adds that the Red Sox still hope to trade Julio Lugo and replace him with a utility infielder.

I'm figuring he ends up back with Tampa. Although for his health Massachusetts is as good as it gets.

Why would they need that? Ellsbury and Bay are relatively healthy. Drew is a question mark but can usually play 100+ games.

How about a 3 team trade:
Lugo, Andruw Jones and Dontrelle Willis. A trade like this will really heat up the winter meetings.

drew can miss 15-20 game stretches, so they need to make sure the 4th outfielder is healthy enough to be able to do that.
Can he do it? Some say no.

HAHA Dodgers can keep Andrew Jones, that is the worst player in BB bar none. Lugo is capable of playing IF and OF at least and bunting w/speed off the bench and not pouting, nor spouting off at the mouth so far at least regarding playing time.
Just hope the Sox will keep trying to move Lugo for another bad contract pitcher instead of making a poor move like this, or maybe attempt to use him as a super utility player. Jones is no reserve guy, he's basically useless as a 4th OF with no bat period anymore and has already griped like Jay Payton did back in '05 with Boston which required a trade from Boston.

i love baldelli and on the surface he seems like a great fit. new england guy etc.. etc..
but if any of those guys gets hurt baldelli can't play everyday (at least from what i've read. i was acosted on other boards for suggesting he would gain stamina as time goes on but apparently his condition is treatable, not curable)

Strangely enough not the worst deal of all time. Lugo still has 2 years left on his contract. Though still, if we have one player whining on our bench on how he should be a starter, I'd rather a player who could be a legitimate back up.
