Why would the Nationals sign Griffey when Griffey has made it a point to say he wants to win? That's the definition of a ridiculous rumor.

Nats and Jr.: Jim Bowden's love affair of former Reds continues.

"Cafardo says not to discount the possibility of the Nationals signing Ken Griffey Jr."
I officially hate Jim Bowden, simply for all of the former Red to Washington rumors and realities.

Why on earth would the Giants express interest in Jeremy Hermida? We have enough OF's and if Nate Schierholtz is given a chance, he could turn out to be just like Hermida or even better.
NO

If the Dodgers don't sign Manny i could see them going after Abreu. Knowing Ned he will go after Burrell
Thoughts?

Knowing Ned and McCourt, the Dodgers will trade for Jermaine Dye, making the Sox eat all the salary, and give up James McDonald in the process.

The Tigers and Beimel seem like a fit

Why would the Dodgers go after Abreu or Burrell instead of Dunn? Dunn is younger and a better hitter. It looks like he could get any of the three on a 2 or 3 year contract. Take the better hitter.

Rex...you may be right
I hope they don't give up J-Mac

Hermedia? Why? It just doesn't make sense! With Fred Lewis and Nate Scheirholtz, along with Randy Winn and the Immovable's Aaron Rowand and Dave Roberts, the Giants don't have a need for him. Scheirholtz projects very similar to Hermedia and hasn't even had an opportunity yet. I don't (want) to believe this one except the problem this offseason, and it's a disturbing one, is all the Giants rumors are coming true. Usually Sabean is able to keep everything very secretive but not this year. It worries me when you start hearing names like Cantu, Blaylock, Crede, Burrell and Dunn

Why would the Dodgers go after an outfielder at all? They already have Pierre, Jones, Young, and Repko. If they can't get Manny they'll most likely go after some starting pitching.
Posted by: Doody | December 07, 2008 at 07:43 PM
Yeah, no way the Dodgers get an outfielder if they don't get Manny, unless they can find a team that is willing to eat most of Pierre's contract.

I think Hermida would definitely be a good fit for the Rays, and the Giants and Cubs make some sense as well.
It's too bad the Cubs didn't actually use Jose Ceda's value properly and land Hermida from Florida in the Gregg trade.

One whisper from Peavy that he is willing to go to the AL and Tower's is onto the phone with the Angels, or Boston if he's willing to go to either. Those 2 teams are loaded with everything he wants and the Cubs lack: Controllable young talent. The only thing is, are they willing to give much of it up since they both have dominant pitching staffs as it is?

I actually see the Rays as a dark horse for Peavy, and they could maybe add in Giles.
Posted by: Tha_SD-Brain | December 07, 2008 at 08:27 PM
It would be nice to see an actual move and call me crazy but I still see Hermida being a solid regular.

"I actually see the Rays as a dark horse for Peavy, and they could maybe add in Giles."
Let's see. The Rays have plenty of young, cost controlled pitching, much of it has frontline upside. I think the Rays don't need to pay for and pay Peavy, when they have all these guys with frontline upside, who are also cheap. Including Kazmir, Shields, Garza, Price already at the MLB level. Spend the cash elsewhere.
Giles to the Rays would be perfect though. Perfect perfect perfect. If Giles is valued properly (one of the best RF in the game), he should easily fetch Davis or Hellickson.

Only reason the Giants would want Hermida is to play 2B. He has played as a backup at SS when Hanley Ramirez has taken the day off. In the alternative, they can move Renteria to 2B and put Hermida at SS. Hermida would give the Giants another bat, with some power.

No way the Brewers are in on Peavy
1) He has a no-trade clause and prefers to be a Cub. The Brewers aren't on his list. He isn't desperate to be traded, the Padres want this more than he does, so he is going to be VERY picky
2) It isn't a good match. The Padres want young pitching in return for Peavy and the Brewers are looking for young pitching. They'd want Parra or Gallardo, maybe Jeffries and that isn't happening. Padres may need a SS but the Brewers aren't giving up Hardy or Escobar right now. Brewers most likely trade bait is Fielder and the Padres are set at 1st base OR Cameron and the Padres aren't looking to pay 10 million for one year of an older player either.

'Why would the Dodgers go after an outfielder at all? They already have Pierre, Jones, Young, and Repko."
Doody - do you honestly think the likes of that foursome would keep the Dodgers from pursuing an actual legitimate outfielder? Really, Repko?

huh? See the thing here is that Hermida actually has some upside. Do you really think Dave Roberts would prevent the Giants from looking towards the future and pursing a guy with Hermida's talent?

Roberts is the 5th outfielder on this team. I don't believe the Giants will trade for or sign an outfielder unless they have huge upside over Fred Lewis and Nate Scheirholtz. Both these player have a nice upside and their cheap. Besides what would the Marlins want?
Posted by: WillieMaysField | December 08, 2008 at 12:14 AM
Wasn't Arthur Rhodes already a Red two days before this was posted. Do the Tigers want to trade for him?
Posted by: Robert | December 08, 2008 at 12:44 AM
Think Josh Hamilton-like derailed prospect, except with Hermida it's been nagging injuries. Hermida was considered a pure hitter prospect with plus 30 HR power when he first came up out of the Marlins farm. Him Wood, and Markakis were often compared to each other as they mirrored each other's path to the majors.
