« Impacto Deportivo Manny Report | Main | Mark Teixeira Rumors: Monday »
Peter Schmuck talks about two of many free agents on the Orioles' radar, pitcher Mark Hendrickson and infielder Aaron Miles. Jeff Zrebiec named Hendrickson as an Orioles' target back on December 6th; check out that article for many other names of interest. Baltimore could be a great opportunity for Hendrickson, as their rotation is wide open. Schmuck reminds us that the Orioles also have interest in starters Braden Looper, Tim Redding, and Kenshin Kawakami. Roch Kubatko says the O's are not interested in Ben Sheets.
This is the first I've heard of the O's being interested in Miles; the Reds are another suitor for the non-tendered infielder.

if they get Hendsukson they can forget the radar gun they can time him with a sun dial.

So, who's still interested in Ben Sheets?
I could see a major surprise coming in that direction.

Any chance Sheets takes the Kyle Lohse approach and signs a one year deal somewhere, loaded with incentives and then re-enters the free agent market next offseason with the hope of getting that 3-4 year deal?

I am trying to figure out just how Hendrickson keeps getting jobs. His movement isn't much and neither is his velocity. He did seem to do OK as a long reliever for the Dodgers, so perhaps he should be repackaged that way?

Is Miles a good fielder can he play short if needed?

O's really only need a back up 1B and SS. And if they sign Teixeira they realy only need a back up SS. Huff can back up 1st and 3rd when he is not DHing and Freel can cover the whole OF plus 2B and 3B.

"Is Miles a good fielder can he play short if needed?"
Aaron Miles can play 2B, SS, 3B, and play the outfield a times. Heck, he can even pitch at rare times. Miles would seem like a good pick-up for whoever signs him. Here is the website for his batting and fielding stats:

"So, who's still interested in Ben Sheets?"
Not much. Surprised that there hasn't been much talk of him lately. I think he'll sign somewhere in mid January on a one year deal.

How about pitching? It seems that the only guaranteed starting pitcher on that staff is Jeremy Guthrie. Everyone else in that rotation is a young, unproven pitcher. Also, on the Baltimore Orioles depth chart is Danys Baez really going to start, or is that just a mistake?

Also, does anyone know how to change your user name here? I made this account a little over a year ago when Nick Swisher was on the A's, but now that he is with the Yankees, I prefer to change it [I hate the Yankees!]

Hendrickson should really just be a lefty-specialist at this point, but I guess some lower-tier teams could use him as an innings-eater.

If the Orioles are interested in Aaron Miles this tells me they are preparing for life without Texeria. In addition it tells me they are preparing for life, without Brian Roberts... I have always enjoyed watching Aaron Miles, the Orioles really wanted him years back when they traded Larry Bigbie to the Rockies but settled for just 3 months of Eric Brynes (gotta love Syd).... interesting that Miles was later traded with Bigbie to the Cards...

There are teams actually interested in Hendrickson still? This guy is a joke, he's a freakin giant but throws in the low 80s.
When he was on the Dodgers he put an itch on the roof of my mouth that only the barrel of a gun could itch!

The O's are pursuing Hendrickson and Miles, and are not interested in Sheets, Lowe, Penny or any other player or pitcher with any track record of success. No surprise this team has over a decade of losing seasons under it's belt.

It makes zero sense for a team like the Orioles to sign a guy like Sheets, Lowe, or Penny as their main goal should be to rebuild and compete in the next couple of years. They only need to sign stop-gap type guys to hold spots until their prospects (hopefully) develope.
