Pirates Looking at Ray King

Ray King is currently playing winter ball in the DR, but he's one of several relievers the Pirates are pursuing -- including Chris Bootcheck and Derrick Turnbow, as we knew -- according to MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch. He's 34, weighs 230 lbs, and a lefty.

King was on the Nationals' Opening Day roster, but only spent 12 games with the Nats before heading to Triple A (with the affiliates of the White Sox and the Astros). Though his major league ERA has been (well) over 4.00 since 2005, in 32 games with Houston's AAA Round Rock Express he posted a 2.25 ERA.

Sarah Green writes for the Boston Metro and UmpBump.

Comments

I remember when he played for Milwaukee. I liked the guy but is way past his prime.
Good low cost high reward type player. He will most likely sign a Minor league contract with a club. Good luck Ray!

I hope PNC's foundation is solid, that's a lot of weight to bear... I saw him in Round Rock last year. The force of his gravitational pull actually takes 1-2 mph off his fastball.

MORE GENEROUS WEIGHT LISTING:

Ray King at 240 pounds or David Ortiz at 230 pounds?

David Orcheese weighs... I dont know, but hes fat.

"Awful"

Hey NedColettiIsClueless you're awful for dissing the Pirates non-stop. Cease with the insults. How bout that Furcal going back to the Dodgers? Makes you wish for Jumpin Jack don't ya.

King's a smart guy but I thought he announced retirement. Oh well, best of luck to him, I've always liked the guy.

im willing to bet anything that BadAndy is none other than Andy LaRoche

Yeah andy, def rather have Raffy over that stiff jack wilson.

I hope your joking BadAndy...Jack Wilson is garbage. Furcal is worth the money he is getting.

Careful, or Ray'll eat Jack Wilson before they can trade him.

"hes got a mean six finger fastball."

I believe you're thinking of Antonio Alfonseca. Another hefty reliever, born with an extra finger.

I don't see the point in signing Ray King. Old and hasn't been in the majors lately. Either sign a proven reliever or just pick up young project guys.

Aw man, I liked him when he was with the Nats. I hope they re-sign him.
