« Mets Rotation Plans | Main | Will Ohman Draws Interest From Mets, Indians »
According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates are one of five teams in serious talks for free agent reliever Derrick Turnbow. A large-market team among those five made a Major League offer to Turnbow. Kovacevic says Turnbow could sign before Christmas.
The Rockies, Giants, and Tigers have also been linked to Turnbow, who stopped pitching in July of this year due to a slight labrum tear. We've also heard the Marlins are in the mix.

Could that be Mets? We need a left but I hope they arent looking at Turnbow

I'd say Turnbow's best fit would be with someone like the Marlins, they don't overwork their bullpen and always trying everyone out in all situations...maybe he can prove he still has something and go back on the market next year...

would anaheim bring turnbow back?

Turnbow throws right-handed...

i hope it isn't the tigers.... how much is the team that gets him gonna have to pay him?
Posted by: dtigerman | December 17, 2008 at 01:54 PM
This headline is very confusing (you should change it)...Dejan clearly states that the team that offered a MAJOR LEAGUE DEAL was a BIG-MARKET TEAM (not the Pirates)!!!!
Posted by: John Johnson | December 17, 2008 at 01:57 PM
No it's not. I didn't say the Pirates offered the MAJOR LEAGUE DEAL.

"Turnbow throws right-handed...'
lol, my bad
Posted by: viktor06 | December 17, 2008 at 02:01 PM
Yes but you your headline is MAJOR LEAGUE DEAL and then you go right to Pirates...wouldn't fly in Print...
Posted by: John Johnson | December 17, 2008 at 02:02 PM
Turnbow sucks!
I am a big Brewer fan and he was horrible last year in the Minors. He had more walks than strikeouts. His command is terrible. I would not want this guy that is for sure.
Posted by: craig | December 17, 2008 at 02:07 PM
so we know the pirates, rockies, giants and tigers are linked to him. And of those Detroit is the only big market club...so unless the 5th team is the one offering him the contract it looks like it was probably the tigers....yay...
Posted by: dtigerman | December 17, 2008 at 02:08 PM
I don't agree...I think it's just that you didn't read it closely enough.

Hey Jackoff since you obviously didn't have a quality education back then let me draw a map for you.
HEADLINE: Turnbow received a Major League offer
BODY: The Pirates are 1 of 5 teams that have an INTEREST in Turnbow. Hence the reason Dejan wrote the article.
MAIN STATEMENT: A BIG-MARKET TEAM offered Turnbow a contract and it wasn't the Pirates
You're not the boss of Tim so read the article and shut your piehole.
Jack-arse MLBTR commentators.

Do you work in journalism?

Tim = the man for doing this day in and day out. Tim, keep up the great work.

First, I'll say that Tim does a great job and is a much better writer than I'll ever be.
However, I was confused when I first read the headline and then the first sentence of the blog posting. I would have had the first sentence say something like "According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, a large-market team made a Major League offer to Turnbow."
Then, go and talk about how the Pirates were one of five teams.
It's not really something anyone needs to make a big stink over though. Like Tim said, read closely. No need to go insulting people over the matter.

The comment quality here continues to spiral further into a game of insults and name calling.
I would love to see the Tigers sign this guy.
Posted by: OmegaMan | December 17, 2008 at 04:31 PM
OmegaMan, maybe i just don't know enough about Turnbow...but why would you want to see the tigers sign him? He seems like a mess to me....a potentially expensive one at that
Posted by: dtigerman | December 17, 2008 at 04:41 PM
OmegaMan: careful what you wish for!!!!!
dtigerman: maybe OmegaMan has front row seats near the backstop and wants to get a couple baseballs. Signing TBow to a major league contract is shocking especially since he couldn't even find the plate in the minors after he had been demoted. Eventually his injury saved him from even more embarrasment. When he is on, he is great. With him everything depends on the first batter. If he walks the first batter, there WILL be a meltdown. You cannot count on him at all - he is messed up in the head and I don't think he can ever be fixed again.
Posted by: MilwMatt | December 17, 2008 at 05:32 PM
haha alright thats what i thought. MilwMatt, from your name i assume you might know: is his lack of control what unraveled him? I have seen his stats and he had those good years then just fell off the map, obviously. I just dont know alot about him, and based off this report I might be forced to learn the hard way by watching him blow some saves.
Posted by: dtigerman | December 17, 2008 at 05:42 PM
dtiger: He is just not mentally with it more than anything. When he was confident he was doing well. Even when he was doing well he would have games where he would completely blow up. Not a hiccup like some pitchers have - more like projectile vomiting. Like I said - if he walks the first batter he usually gets into big trouble. NO WAY is he worth a major league deal. Maybe a minor league flier and hope he gets his confidence and control back.
PS I am not kidding about hitting the backstop. He actually did that a few times. He is like "WildThing" from Major League except he has a shag instead of that funky haircut Charlie Sheen had. Most Brewer fans call his downfall the curse of the bobblehead. He has completely stunk beginning with the exact day an all-fan giveaway took place with his bobblehead doll (shag hair and all) being the "prize".
Posted by: MilwMatt | December 17, 2008 at 06:06 PM
alright, thanks for the info. well see what happens, the tigers have been tied to alot of bullpen names so far this offseason and none have signed. Lets hope that trend doesnt end now haha
so you really dont think he is worth a major league contract at all? i know he has struggled, and his salary is ridiculous, but not even worth a major league contract? that scares me...
Posted by: dtigerman | December 17, 2008 at 06:32 PM
for a one 2 mill contract is not bad for him to prove himself.
