I do not think I would ever give up my first round pick for a reliever, even a closer. You lose the pick and have to shell out a lot of money. That is a steep price for someone who gives you maybe 40 important innings a year.

Lets go Walt, go for Taverez...

The White Sox need Taveras without dye, give up Mccouluch.

the mets not signing a closer to preserve a first round pick is like not fixing the hole in your roof so you can invest in the stock market.
besides, the mets don't need to worry about money. they have citibank money coming to them for the next 20 yrs. and citibank never defaults on financial obligations, as you know.

I like Ryan Spilborghs as a fantasy sleeper, if you can call a Colorado outfielder a sleeper, but how good is his defense in center? And what about Carlos Gonzalez? Does the Holliday trade allow them to move Atkins/Stewart to left field? They really should move Taveras for whatever...

The Sox don't need Wily Taverez. They have Brian Anderson who is far and away superior to that no-hit, no-catch, noodle armed nothing.

Assuming that the Mets lose Perez, they're likely going to get an (protected) draft pick back anyways, plus an (protected) supplemental pick, so it shouldn't hurt as much as one would think.
Plus, who says that the Mets won't sign multiple Type A Free Agents anyways?
And as the kid said, you can't ignore team needs because you might lose a draft pick.
I do think it's kinda telling that Fuentes is coming in for a visit and K-Rod is not scheduled to (At least not yet) though.

I'm not a big fan of Taverez, but you have to be accurate in your criticism. His defense is pretty decent and his arm is strong and accurate.
I'll agree with the no-hit assessment, however.

Um, Cory Sullivan is a minor league free agent.

Actually you're right, but just a regular free agent.
