« Yankees To Avoid Sheets? | Main | Chat With Matthew Cerrone »
According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, Joe Beimel's agent Joe Sroba is focusing elsewhere after the Tigers failed to make an offer at the Winter Meetings. The lefty reliever probably won't sign until after the New Year.
Several of Beimel's previous suitors already locked up their lefties - the Reds, D'Backs, and Rockies are probably out of the picture.

Beimel would be a good lefy for any team needing a specialist.
Tim, It is really bad to me at least when you link to these pay for only sites like that ESPN insider article. One has to be rich to subscribe to all the sites for baseball..

Beimel to the Mets makes perfect sense, especially since the Mets traded Schowenweiss.

White Sox need him - teams will wait until early Feb. on him.

Beimel is a great pitcher, I'm sad to seem him go from the Dodgers.
His numbers don't really reflect just HOW good he is, due to the role the Dodgers used him in. Most all of his appearances have consisted of facing the toughest left handed hitters in the league, and then he is usually lifted for a longer reliever, or perhaps the Brox/Saito closers. AND, there are usually ALWAYS runners on base. For a pitcher to hang a 2.02 ERA in this context is just awesome.
Also, he's got one of the best pickoff moves I've ever seen.

i know he isn't as good as his era suggests, but I was really hoping the Tigers would pick him up. They need to pick up somebody...

Who is better, Beimel or Will Ohman?
Posted by: viteminj | December 19, 2008 at 02:42 PM
I think Ohman and Beimel are very similar. That's a tough call. I think Ohman has a bit better control, but Beimel has a better "icewater in the veins" attitude in tough situations.

Beimel did what Torre asked of him and he excelled at it. I watch a lot of Dodgers' games since I live in Souther California and the guy gets some of the toughest lefties in the game out usually with runners on base as DodgersLBC alluded too.
As for Ohman and Beimel, Beimel has the better stuff, Ohman has the most experience. Both are very good at what they do though.

So what does this leave the Tigers? Joe Nelson? Takashi Saito?
Thank god we have four catchers though.

johns...you'd prefer if I didn't post rumors that come from pay sites? Not too many readers crave fewer rumors.
