You meant White Sox.

Day was signed as a free agent by Boston, so the claim was from the Red Sox, although he was previously with Chicago.

Midtown, the Sox have 39 players on their 40-man roster. No need to DFA anyone.

VanEvery has use as an emergency fillin at the ML level as an emergency OF and infielder and has some pop, why the Sox keep Hansack on the 40 man roster is beyond me.. 1st they dropped Zink and now Day they just had claimed themselves and still keep Hansack? He's shown nothing last 2 seasons and is 31 years old, never going to do anything and at least the Van Every types have use as fill ins like last season, while Pauley/Hansack types get called up for 1 week and either sit in the BP the entire time, or get used in mop up games which is all that they have shown they are suited for.

If this is the case, then tell me who among the 41 players I listed is NOT on the 40 man roster.

Just did a quickie check from your list midtown and it looks correct with regards to what is listed on the Sox homepage.
Hope the Sox don't do something crazy and release Aardsma or Littleton this time, or at least before looking at them in ST. Would really like to see Aardsma back on the staff in '09, fully healthy again and under the tutelage of John Farrell for a little while longer before they give up on him, that splitter of his, combined with that upper 90's FB just has the potential of 8th inning guy written all over it at some point.

Someone from the following group is going to be waived:
Carter, Chris
Bailey, Jeff
Brown, Dusty
Van Every, Jonathan
Hansack, Devern
After that, Theo will still have a poop load of smaller trades to make in the next two months. The following guys are all out of options:
Aardsma, David
Littleton, Wes
Pauley, David
Kottaras, George
There isn't room for any of them on the 25 man roster. All of them would be picked up if you tried to pass them through waivers. Then there's Gonzalez, the Rule V pick up. There's no room for him either. Decisions, decisions.

Agreed Aardsma, has a hell of an arm, but need to throw strikes. Manny has same problem. If I was going to get rid of a great arm that is who I would move. 0-2, next thing 3-2, ten pitches a batter. DelCarmen is very inconsistent. Salty for him good to go.

Pauley and Hansack, later.
Posted by: Cyyoung | January 09, 2009 at 06:15 PM
Agreed on Pauley, he pitched that 1 gem in his 1st ML game vs the Yanks and that was it, he is a goner for sure and Hansack is a AAAA guy also at best.
As much as MDC is intriquing when he is on, he is equally maddening when he is suffering from "Calvin Sciraldi syndrome" and freaking out with baserunners on and throwing grape fruits over the plate under stress that get hammered. I would like to see him get moved now that they have a good BP in a catcher deal if possible and if his value is better than it maybe is with his high 90's FB and devastating curve when it is on.

Texas would be stupid to trade one of their catchers for MDC. While I grant "it IS Texas" this still is not going to happen. Ryan wants Buchholz, period.
