I think Beltre could be a huge addition to that team.
He's obviously got offensive upside (that contract year in LA was unreal) and he's just a fantastic all around player.
He'd give that team a major upgrade both offensively and defensively.
Right now, they have Sandoval at third with Ishikawa/Bowker manning first. That's okay, but Sandoval's defense at third isn't very good, and it's unclear what kind of offensive production that platoon can give at first base.
Adding Beltre would give the Giants a potential middle of the order bat as well as a superb defensive third baseman, which is probably something they need considering they have Edgar Renteria playing shortstop.
If the Giants don't sign Crede, then Beltre is definitely a guy they should look into.
Maybe something like Nick Noonan and a pitcher for Beltre?

Sabean and Zdurenick matching up on a trade? For a rental player? Oh no.
Sabean doesn't really have that great a track record with guys who flow through the AL West.
Just keep Alderson, Bumgarner, Villalona, Posey, Sanchez, etc. out of these trade talks please and everything will be OK.

I would think (hope) that Sabean would laugh as he hung up if Zdurenick asked for any of their top prospects (Bumgarner, Villalona, Posey, Alderson, Rodriguez) or Sanchez.

I'm ok with Beltre if they are looking to dump salary. But if they want quality prospects....NO!!!

Haven't the Ms waited too long to get this done? With Boras looming on the horizon, you'd think the team trading for Beltre would want a year and a half...

I agree, the Mariners probably should've shopped and traded Beltre already.
This team was going nowhere last year, and they honestly can't believe they'll contend this year, so they probably should have traded him during last summer.

Maddux joins the Pads???? Weird, i would like to see him help out the Bravos at one point.

Looks like Estes' retirement is imminent, and Jason Phillips' is long overdue (thought he was practicing to run the 100 Meters in the next Olympics?) :P

I WANT PEAVY DAMNIT!!!

With Peavy pitching in the WBC, and injury concerns already apparent, expect Tower's to lose a lot more value for him come July. He may not even get Vitters if the Cubs and Pads revisit talks.

With Peavy pitching in the WBC, and injury concerns already present, look for Towers to lose more value as the season goes on. If the Pads and Cubs revisit talks by the deadline, he may be lucky to land Vitters this time around. Stupid, stupid man.

Peavy isn't coming to the Cubs, will everyone please get that through their heads? I'm a Cubs fan & would love to see it happen, but boy are fans gullible. Just like last year, when we kept hearing Brian Roberts was coming. Now it's Peavy. What a bunch of bs. P.S. btw, nice misspelling in the second sentence of Bagg's blog about Beltre, etc. Don't they proofread this stuff?

Yeah have to agree the coop, Peavy isnt going to be a Cub, Its pretty obvious that the Pads and Cubs could not come to a deal and won't come to deal, Padres want more than most teams are willing to give.
Rock,he may be playing in the WBC, but it doesnt mean he'll get hurt, anyways last time he played in it he only pitched like 2 games anyways, and they weren't even full games. Anyways who knows what will happen.
Chief, It had been know that Maddux wanted to stay on the west coast, since his family lives over here.
And Scribble, Yeah, that wouldnt be a bad trade, but I dont see that happening, anyways Beltre doesn't impress me that much, and Noonan is young, but he's going to be pretty good, so I don't know if letting him go would be wise.

Noonan's got power upside. The Giants need power bats. I don't trade Noonan for a rental in Beltre.

Yeah he does, not surprising including how hard he worked in high school, I wouldn't be surprised to see him hit 20 HR's in a season. Though he is just a good overall player, plus he's fast. He did pretty good for his first full season of pro baseball too, including we only played about 30 to 32 games Senior year of High School.

"This team was going nowhere last year, and they honestly can't believe they'll contend this year, so they probably should have traded him during last summer"
So, should that have been before Bill "Blank" Bavasi was fired, or after he was fired and Interim GM Lee "I'm Just a Temp" Pelekoudas stepped in?
Either way, it probably would've been a disaster having either one of them trade Beltre.
Having said that, I wouldn't be opposed to a trade before the season begins. That way, his new team gets him for a full season and ups the value the Mariners would receive in return.
