Rangers Release Jimmy Gobble

According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers released lefty reliever Jimmy Gobble today.  They'll go with C.J. Wilson and Eddie Guardado as southpaws in the pen.  The Rangers had signed Gobble on March 21st after the Royals let him go. Gobble can still get lefties out, and can be retained by his new team for 2010 as an arbitration-eligible player.

That was quick.

Quick, pack your bags for SD!

Kinda surprising.

Sigh, that ends my hopes for the GOBBLE GABBARD lefty lefty combo out of the pen this season...

Gobble may be decent against lefties, but he has some command issues, has seen a slight decline in his velocity, and has a 5.00 career FIP.

He's not awful by any means, but there are many guys that deserve shots before Gobble.

Not really surprising. I like Gobble and all but he should sign a minor league deal somewhere and see if he can work things out.

As weird as this sounds, I actually hope my Indians take a flyer on him. We have 1 open bullpen spot for either Zach Jackson, Vinnie Chulk (not on 40-man roster), or Ed Mujica (out of options). Other than Chulk neither has impressed, and Mujica has been so bad the team may even just cut him.

Jackson is a lefty and we only have one right now (raffy perez)....but Jackson is actually hit MUCH harder against lefties than righties.

Gobble would be a nice lefty matchup guy....or at least worth a look, especially if we're gonna let Mujica go anyways....

DODGERS

Herm, I agree. Especially when you realize Perez is going to be your setup man most of the time. They really need that LOOGY and it seems like Gobble could fit that.

Would love to have an AL Central team sign him.

If it's the Indians so be it!

Last year Gobble didn't bring a gas can from the bull pen...he brought a freaking refinery.
