I rather have Zack Wheeler then Shelby Miller.

"Not sure how they arrived at that figure."
Greed.

The amount Ramirez is being sued for makes it seem bogus.

Mike Minor? Seriously? I really hope not. Matt Bush #2.

About Pedro Feliz: This is not even an option if his back holds out and he stays relatively healthy all season. $5 Million Option is chump change for a starting 3B who maybe one of the best defensive ones in the league. You see how it plays out after next year and if you want too sign him again, no problem...if not, one year at that price is a steal!!

How much did Ramirez even sign for?
I assume something like 6 million over 3 years.
Thats a lot of cash for someone to give up when they dont have it.

Yeah, Padre fans should absolutely be disappointed if they take Minor with the third pick.
He's a solid first round talent, but he really isn't a Top 10 talent, and there are sooo many superior options in that spot.
If Ackley drops to them, I think that could be a really good pick.
Otherwise, I think that they really just need to look at pitchers like Crow, Scheppers, Meyer, Gibson and Matzek.

Although the Cardinals need a SP that project a #3 or better, but I would be happy if Grant Green fell to the Cardinals at 19... However, it will NOT happen.

The $20mil figure is arbitrary -- it's a shakedown. The real claim is by "talent scouts" over 30% of his signing bonus and 5% of his salary that they say he contractually owes them.
I get the feeling Jim Bowden is sweating over this.

I agree that Ortiz is likely headed for time on the DL...the main delay is for Francona to decide that the team's interests have to outweigh his personal feelings for Papi. If Pappi is the man we all think he is he understands the need (both his and the team's) and will go along, its likely the only way he can retrack himself and (fingers crossed) find a path to his old self again. Several weeks doen south with a new batting coach/new batting instruction/easier pitching is the best blueprint for him now. If he stays much longer in the lineup it may be a lose/lose situation (literally) for him and the Sox.
If Boston does DL Papi they don't actually need to go outside for a DH. Lowell could fill that slot nicely (he's been hot with the bat lately) and could use some downtime from the field for his ailing hip. An interesting move would be to see what the Indians want in return for Peralta, who lately shows signs of coming out of an early batting slump and would likely cost less than DeRosa. Though not as versatile as MD he could fill a niche for Boston (SS, 3B, part time DH) and give them flexibility. Would be a better fit than Francoeur for the Sox, IMO.

According to Cot's, Ramirez signed a 4 yr/$4.75m contract.

I tend to agree with sfgiantsfan. Even at his older, more free swinging production levels, Feliz is a 1.5-3.0 WAR player, which makes him worth significantly more than $5 million.

How about one of those NBA type trades…Where one team says sure I’ll trade you my best player but since I don’t really want to your gonna have to take a bad contract also
The Phillies get Halladay but agree to take on most of or all of Veron Wells’ contract? (09 $10mil, 10 $21mil, 11 $23mil can opt out after season, 12 $21mil, 13 $21mil, 14 $21mil, 15 FA) or Alex Rios’ not near as bad contract? (09 $5.9mil, 10 $9.7mil, 11 $12mil, 12 $12mil, 13 $12.5mil, 14 $12.5mil, 15 $13.5mil club option w/$1mil buyout, 2016: FA)
Philles trade Victorino and some combo of Carrasco, Knapp, Savery, Worley, Bostardo, Marson, Donald, Mayberry, Brown, Taylor…. and a lesser prospect or two?

that kinda makes sense if u think about it

feliz is a bargain. I love his defense. Even if Donald was playing better (he's been out the last two days???) Feliz is a better option. I'm thinking more and more Donald is now trade bait waiting to happen.

Feliz might be somewhat of a bargain, but that's exclusively due to his defensive prowess. The guy hitting .300+ with an OPS over .800+? That's not him. I admit, I saw the increased walk rate and thought, well, maybe...but really, it's nothing. Check the guy's BABIP-it's 50 points higher than his career average. He'll regress and post a WOBA a little above his career average, but not enough to mean much of anything.
It's funny how a couple of months of good fortune resulting in a BA north of .300 brings the attention. In short, he's no more or a bargain today than he was last year. Today, it seems obvious that Philly should pick up the option. But they should pick it up at then end of the season, too, when he's hitting .260 with marginal power and a low OBP.

This will never happen, last I heard, Phillies weren't looking to add that much payroll and please stop posting "NBA type trades" this is the MLB ok?

And when you have bravoboy10 agreeing that your trade makes sense then you know it doesn't.
