« Mets Acquire Emil Brown | Main | Wagner Mateo Draws Interest From Cardinals »
According to Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies will replace manager Clint Hurdle today. The Rockies are 18-28 this year, 14.5 games behind the Dodgers and in last place in the NL West. Jim Tracy will be the interim manager, according to Jack Etkin of Inside the Rockies.
Renck says Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd would like to retain Hurdle in a front office role.

Fire sale?? They really don't have that many good pieces. Although I'll take Brad Hawpe!

Colorado fans better hope Jim Tracy is interim with no chance to be hired at the end of the year.
I think a fire sale will have to happen sooner rather then later. Shake something up, see what happens.

AHAHAHAHA

at least he isnt going to ruin the dodgers. Tracy managed OK teams, but had no idea how to manage pitchers and didnt understand about slumps and letting kids play.

No Joe Torre has no idea how to manage the pitching. He got fired because of McCourt/Depo
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | May 29, 2009 at 03:31 PM
OH btw as long as the Rockies have their kids in the minors play in hitters parks that inflate stats they will have trouble for a long time.

"had no idea how to manage pitchers and didnt understand about slumps and letting kids play."
That's Torre.
Didn't Andre Ethier sit on the bench in favor of Juan Pierre last season?
Isn't Blake DeWitt on a bench right now?

I really wanted Dewitt to play third and Blake LF when Manny left, but Pierre is a machine so no worries. But Dewitt should be playing 2nd base at Triple A.
Yeah the Dodgers took the wrong path with Loney, Kemp, and Ethier at first.

Jim Tracy, hahaha!!!
He's terrible. I remember throughout his tenure in Pittsburgh, he would ALWAYS mention that he won a division title like it was the biggest accomplishment ever.

How did Clint Hurdle manage the Rockies for so long? He has to be the worst manager in baseball. Seven years as manager and one winning season. Jim Tracy is a significantly better manager than Clint Hurdle. No manager could have won with the horrible Pirates teams he had.

Ethier got 596 PA's last year. He wasn't sitting too often.
"But Dewitt should be playing 2nd base at Triple A. "
He is playing 2B in Triple-A. Also playing a little SS and 3B.
Tracy was the one batting Jason Phillips and his .600 OPS in the cleanup hole.

god tracy is horrible
he was bad with the dodgers but he was down right ugly with the pirates
i realy dont see how you justify firing hurdle and replacing him with tracy who is just as bad if not worse

I honestly think a manager is least important in baseball as opposed to the importance of a coach in the NFL/ NBA/ NHL. I think I read somewhere that they may decide the outcome of four total games throughout a whole entire season. That being said, I truly feel sorry for anyone who has Jim Tracy managing their ball club. He was terrible during his tenure for the Pirates and I recall numerous players telling the media of how there was a huge lack of discipline and regimented order during his time here. Some went as far as saying players were allowed to leave the dugout to check text messages after ABs. What garbage.

Ethier sat on the bench for the first few weeks, then he started nearly everyday.
DeWitt is at AAA, playing 2B(starting) and a little SS/3B.
Torre at least lets Loney, Kemp, Ethier, Martin all play. He didnt start Ethier because he struggled last ST and he hadnt seen enough to start him. That quickly changed. As someone pointed out, Tracy was an uneducated manager when puting a lineup together.
With Loney, Kemp, Ethier coming up; Kemp was a player who had skills but didnt put it together until last yr. I explained Ethier, and Loney started almost as soon as he was ready.
