This is all so friggin stupid. All of these people that are saying Strasburg will be the next Mark Prior etc are completely ridiculous, how could they possibly know this and what exactly do they have to base this on?
Sure, Prior was a flop and we all know that MLB drafting is not guaranteed as I will agree that many coveted and high ranked picks have indeed flopped over the years.
BUT, on the other side of the spectrum, how many highly ranked 1st rounders have succeeded at the major league level? How many have gone on to amazing careers? All star games, Cy young awards, batting titles, gold gloves and so on.
Yes he is over hyped but its the media and Boras doing the hyping, not Strasburg. He cant be blamed for having amazing stuff and putting up amazing numbers can he?
Yes all this hype has the potential to hurt his future career because of all the media, eyes, hopes and expectations that he will face but saying off the hop that he is going to flop with no evidence whatsoever to support such a claim is just plain ignorant garbage that is clearly coming from either fans of a team that didnt get him or fans of a team that have been through a 1st rounder flop recently.
I say everyone just shut up and let the kid start learning.
Of course, the Nationals could accelerate and attribute to a Strasburg flop if they try to put him immediately into the rotation without at least this season and next season in the minors simply because they need to put butts in the seats.

Oh boy, a bunch of amateur 'pitching mechanics gurus' who know the term 'inverted W'.
Prior's problem was that he was all arm, and didn't use his body well. Formula for disaster. Strasburg doesn't have that problem.

Thank you, xethicx. Brilliantly said.

You forgot to add in the Mark Prior was being constantly overused which more than likely contributed to his collapse.

Generally, you aren't supposed to take a 21 year old starter, pitch him for 167 innings, and then bring him back the next year and have him throw 235 innings. Especially when that guy is a strikeout pitcher that is still learning how to efficiently use his pitches. Especially when there are times when you keep him in the game even though your team has a solid lead and he's already thrown 103 pitches. Prior had mechanical problems, but there is little doubt that Dusty Baker expedited the process of Prior's demise.

Milledge is perfect for Atlanta, move McLouth to Right and use him in CF. Maybe a 3-way deal involving Francouer and the Royals?

If MLBTR wants to remain a credible MLB site, in my humble opinion, you should stop referencing articles like Bareknucks article.
That article has so much subjective opinion in it, and yet it's trying to be passed off as objective. And yet, it's all false information.
Please, for the love of God, read that crap before referencing it.

Clarify: I know that this site isn't endorsed by the MLB or anything, I come here because it's all baseball, and typically the articles referenced of written by quality writers. Bareknucks so is far from quality.

Milledge might actually be worse than McLouth in center. Just sayin'

What possible reason do people have to think Strasburg will be the next Mark Prior?
Theyre both hyped pitchers who got/are getting massive signing bonuses therefore they must have the EXACT mental & physical make up and history is doomed to repeat itself.
Pathetic excuse for sports writing.
Fact is he has amazing stuff whilst dominating the competition at lower levels.
What more can you want out of a pitcher?
Would these writers feel more comfortable about him having future success if he was throwing 73 MPH and only had a 'fastball' whilst getting owned by hitters and walking 10 batters an inning?
Ridiculous.
