« Odds And Ends: Isringhausen, El Duque, Felix | Main | Where Will Mark DeRosa End Up? »
Tim Curtis of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Reds traded Norris Hopper to the White Sox in exchange for Corky Miller. Miller, a 33-year-old catcher, began his career with the Reds and played four seasons in Cincinnati from 2001-04. He's played for four major league teams since, most recently for the White Sox. He'll restart his Reds career in Triple A.
Hopper, 30, has played parts of three seasons for the Reds, but hasn't played in the majors so far in 2009.

So the big solution for Chicago's center field problem is...
Norris Hopper!!
If he can come close to the .316/.367/.371 career line he put up in Cincinnati while playing plus defense in center field, then great.
Not a bad deal, considering the fact that Miller was expendable and Hopper is almost definitely an upgrade on DeWayne Wise.

Watch out, NL Central.

So is this evidence that the Sox are buying or selling?
LOL ... nice trade

Traded away Corky....
Definitely sellers.

I see this as a good move for the White Sox. We have no need for Miller with the slew of catchers we have and Norris Hopper just adds a bit of depth to an abysmal CF situation. This could possibly indicate that Carlos Quentin may be out a bit longer than anyone expects. Scotty Pods should shift to center when CQ is back.

The White Sox have a center fielder now. Finally.
(Now, Jocketty, release Taveras and call up Stubbs.)

Well....both players got a reserve for when a backup player gets hurt.
Now if only we can get these two teams to make a serious trade.
Heres my question. Could the Sox trade Dye while still being competitive?

all this is is to get hopper out of aaa to make room to bring Chris Heisey up from AA.

Has there ever been a 1-for-1 trade with quirkier names than this?

Let the firesale begin.

Darn, we offered the Pale Hose Brian McCann for old Corky, but Kenny told us no.
Corky is lights out and the finest defensive catcher in my senile old gourd. He always had the best sugar cubes.

Trading Dye would signal the Sox have zero hope for the rest of the season. I doubt the Sox would do it, since Dye would slot in nicely at DH with Thome out at his $12M option.
Not sure who the Reds could offer, and I doubt Kenny Williams would trade Dye for someone like Homer Bailey.

I Would not trade homer for Dye anyway i was very impressed with his preformance last night touching 97 98 MPH and the new splitter looked good as well dropping right off of the table.
He just needs to limit the walks kind of like Cueto last year...His stuff looked great though...
