| Rangers Sign Orlando Hernandez »

Some links for Thursday evening...
- Josh Fields told MLB.com's Scott Merkin that he had a "blunt and straightforward" meeting with Ken Williams about his place on the White Sox.
- Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports the White Sox drafted their GM's son, Tyler Williams, and Harold Baines Jr..
- Jason Grilli was recently dealt to the Rangers and now he's working on a deal of his own. According to his Twitter, Grilli plans to exchange "cash or an item to be named later" for number 49.
- Gavin McCourt, the son of Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, was drafted by the Red Sox. The 39th round pick says Scott Boras wouldn't fit into his "family dynamics," so his dad will represent him, according to the LA Times .
- Scott Bordow of the East Valley Tribune believes it's time for the Diamondbacks to sell, beginning with Felipe Lopez and Doug Davis.
- And I'll be talking baseball on 590 KFNS in St. Louis tonight at 11pm CST, so tune in if you're in the area. If not, you can always listen online.
I'm betting the D'Backs con someone into overpaying for either Garland or Davis, or both.

These kids know that Boras isn't the only agent, right?

Lopez to the Cubs, release Miles unless he has options, give a few AA players to Arizona.

So are the White Sox buyers or sellers? If they are buyers how about Bedard to the Sox for 3B Fields(MLB) and 2B CJ Retherford(AA)? This can give Fields another shot with another team. It also gives the Sox an Allstar caliber pitcher.

There are other agents in baseball?!
I don't believe it.

Oh to be a fly on that wall. I bet you that conversation went something along the lines of:
Fields: "Kenny, why am I not playing more"?
KW: "Because you suck"..
Fields: "......."
KW: "You ok..."?
Fields: "Am I really that bad"?
KW: "Haha....OHHHHH YEAHH".
Fields: "Well...ok. Thanks."
KW: "Not a problem".

Do the White Sox have any 2b/3b prospects in the low minors for Lopez? Or maybe relievers?

Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest? The owner of the Dodgers representing a player negotiating with the Red Sox?

Fields needs a change of scenery and Baltimore is a pefect fit. How about Wigington and cash for Fields. White Sox get a 3b with pop who is not playing with the O's. The O's get a young 3b that will get a full time chance.

Frank McCourt wouldn't draft his own son? Gavin probably told him he wouldn't take deferred money.

Now if I would have posted a third player there all I would be reading is how the Sox wouldn't give all that up for a rental. But if I put up an expendable player plus a second base prospect with power for a rental people think I would be giving Bedard away. There is just no way to win! Ha. And for the record im an M's fan. I want them to extend Bedard but I don't think they will.

I'm not sure how this works out for the Sox. They would move fields to make room for Beckham not another 3B.

M's can get a hell of a lot more than that for Bedard. KW would personaly drive cross-country to deliver those two players for Bedard.

Boston is probably holding his HS draft rights as extortion, just like Kyle Arnsberg that they also drafted in round #45 (his dad is somebody's pitching coach, I forget whose it is now it's been so many over the years)
Really, Boston's lower levels is so deep that they pretty much drafted only a bunch of HS kids and I doubt many of the lower rounds will sign, they drafted James Dykstra, Michael Yastrzemski, Arsnberg, McCourt and doubt they have any interest in any of them, other than Luke Bard, their own fireballing Daniel Bard's brother who also is a fireballer.

and i bet he'd apologize to fields too, LOL...

That is, many of the lower round HS kids are going to sign and in rounds 30-50, only 6 were attending college.

Sox can put Beckham where he belongs at ss and Ramirez can move back to 2b. Wigington can play 1b,2b,3b,of and he hits with pop. If the O's paid all the money I don't know what the loss would be to the Sox.

Ok so in a trade where the Mariners send Bedard to the White Sox what would be a fair return?
Posted by: Dixoner | June 12, 2009 at 12:13 AM
The Wigginton for Fields move would be brilliant for the White Sox. Then they can leave the young infielders alone with Getz, Beckham, and Ramirez. If the O's paid all the money, what does it hurt to have a versatile player, like Wigginton, coming off the bench and playing practically everyday while they rest some of their key veterans.

Sox are going to be sellers soon...
Posted by: 815Sox | June 12, 2009 at 05:40 AM
I don't think the Sox would trade Fields for Wigginton. I think they'll trade Fields to the Astros who really need a 3B right now. They're starting Blum who's done a good job but is a better bench player/pinch hitter. I'd say something like Fields for Arias, and prospects. Arias is a good RP that could turn into a great set up guy. The Sox need another bullpen arm badly. And I am really tired of seeing Fields strike out every At-bat, its annoying.

Would the White Sox deal Fields to the Cards? Just a random thought of the morning. Maybe for like Duncan? They could use him next year when Thome is not resigned.
Posted by: RoyHobbs | June 12, 2009 at 09:38 AM
trade field for wigginton?! thanks the stupidest thing ive ever heard.SO 5 homers this year is pop huh? and how bout that 235 batting average, yea we could sure use another under performing player on are team. and btw i dont like fields either but y would we bring in another old veteran when are team is filled with that to begin with, which is one of are problems.
