The Braves just resigned Chipper through 2013, and he has said he wants to finish as a Brave. Not only does he have 10/5 veto power on any trade, but he would not have resigned for the the rest of his career if he wanted to move to a contender this year. Dumb article...

If the Braves trade Jones, they'll be in the running for "most hated team by their hometown" award. Smoltz, Glavine, and Jones. Getting rid of all three faces of their franchise would be a great way to alienate the rest of their fans.

To be fair to the Braves, Glavine was pretty much dead weight at this point.

Where did he even think of such an asinine idea? The day the Braves trade Chipper will be the same day Jo-Jo Reyes stops appearing in trades that people throw out.

Furman is a old fart still thinking that it's WWII still going on...That guy has been a legend sports writer in atlanta for years but it comes a time where he doesn't even make sense anymore...
No way you could trade chipper without his permission and he would probably veto any deal anyways. What a waste of an article that I took the time to read...

To Furman
1. Get off the acid.
2. STAY OFF.
3. Retire.
Seriously, he put's the "ass" in asinine.

To Furman,

You suck.

Bisher also wrote three weeks ago that the Braves need to be more patient with Frenchy and six weeks ago that the Braves had no talent in the farm system. This was before Hanson was called up and Morton, Locke, and Hernandez were traded, mind you.

Furman Bisher is an idiot.. please do not post more articles by him. I'm sure the readers of this site could spend there valuable time reading something besides his garbage.

Bisher is just a grumpy old man...he lost touch with reality years ago.

Just to echo every other poster, Furman Bisher is way beyond his time.

I actively avoid anything he writes because he possesses a unique ability to actually make me genuinely mad reading about sports.

The guy is the quintessential crotchety old man who hasn't met an issue he didn't feel the need to take an inflammatory and oppositional view on in the last 10 years. If you have been wondering where all those balls you hit into the neighbor's yard as a kid ended up, Bisher's garage would be a good place to start.

Wow, the AJC is just turning into more of an embarrassment each time I see/read any of their ludicris articles (save for DOB and CR).

Put Chipper Jones on the market, is he crazy? Chipper Jones is much more than a franchise player, he practically is the franchise. That is just as bad or maybe worse than if the Yankees trade Derek Jeter, the Cardinals trade Albert Pujols, or the Phillies trading Chase Utley.

I just read that whole article LOL!

Chipper signs a big extension and is the face of the franchise-- of course a trade makes sense! :|

Trading Chipper would definitely piss off fans and not to mention totally destroy their already bad reputation. The Braves can't take the fact that Chipper wants to retire a Brave for granted.

Also, why are we supposed to care that the Pirates signed a 9th round draft pick?

We have a good team right now and without chipper we would be fighting the nationals for last place. Chipper is still here for 4 more years and by them we will have Heyward,Freeman and all the great pithching coming up in the mlb. you never know what will happen betwween 2 so we deffinently have a shot at making the playoffs and thats all u need because anything can happen when you get in

Furman Bisher just dooes not know what hes talkin about.

The Braves are messing up bigtime lately. Instead of signing impact players in free agency they make bad trades with bottom feeders for average players with no upside and high salary like McLouth.

NOOOOO! Dane!!!!

Hawaiian down! Hawaiian Down!

Jair Jurrjens, Rafael Soriano, Nate McLouth, and so on have no upside? LOL

The Braves are only 4 1/2 games back, so in no way are they out of it. No reason to trade Chipper Jones.

But even if they were 13 games back, I still couldn't picture them trading him.

They tried to sign plenty of players in free agency...most of them said no. Lowe has certainly had an "impact" though. As far as McClouth being overpaid, you realize he only makes 2.5 million this year don't you? McClouth could find a starting spot on just about any team in baseball. Young outfielders with "upside" aren't usually on team's dump list when they rebuild...McClouth has about as much "upside" as you can get without trading top prospects.

McLouth was a great trade we gave away a non proven pitcher in Jeff Locke we gave away Morton but we have a surplus of pithching and we gave up hernandez when we already have schaefer. So how was this a bad trade McLouth just signed an extension and he starting to heat up with homers in back to back games so its not like we picked him up for a half of year

Yeah Bisher!

After we trade Chipper for a couple of prospects, we should trade McCann to the Mets for David Murphy and Ryan Church and then trade Tommy Hanson to the Phillies for Jamie Moyer! Moyer's old right?! He can be the new Smoltzy!
THEN we can trade Freedie Freeman for Mark DeRosa and Heyward for Xavier Nady! Brilliant idea! After that, we can make Julio Franco our new 3rd baseman/hitting coach!
Hell, Let's make Frank Wren play RF as well!

As others here have said, you are nuts. McLouth gives the Braves what they have lacked since Furcal left - a lead-off hitter who actually has some pop in his bat.

The Braves reputation isnt that bad IMO. People go play in other cities. MJ didnt finish with the Bulls. I dont blame Smoltz or the Braves for that situation. They both did whats best for them. As for Glavine, he should be thankful we are paying him a couple hundred bucks this year. The whole trade Chipper thing doesnt even merit a comment.

The Braves shouldn't trade Chipper Jones, name one player available that's better than chipper, surly not Adam Strike out Dunn, the Brave are 1 player short of having a good team, the mistake the made was trading so many good player for Tex,and he sucked,be patient and lets see how this pans out,Kelly and Francoeur are a major problem, what really hurt was Omar breaking his finger

the mistake the made was trading so many good player for Tex,and he sucked

Raymond

tex was a great pickup sure we gave up a lot but andrus wasnt going to play because we have escobar and salty wasnt going to play because we have mccann and harrisons been ok and we dont know wat feliz will do
plus we still have a top 5 farm system

Furman Bisher writes some pretty strane ideas sometimes, so I take this with a grain of salt. Chipper will not be traded, and if I'd have to bet, I'd put EVER at the end of that. Ignore it

Wait a minute! The Padres need to get younger????!!!! This is news to everyone!
Are the padres currently in the top three worst baseball franchises?
The padres have almost nothing in their system. They have been cheap in the draft. They had a great trade lined up with the braves, wussed out, and now peavy is on the dl. Giles is playing terribly. They could have moved him in the off-season for something valuable. A-Gon needs to be moved for four or five young guys. They have blanks he needs to play first. They have no young pitching and no hitters. Imagine if they moved peavy for Boyer, Escobar, hernandez, morton. A-Gon would bring at least one front line pitching and hitting prospect and another two decent players.Heath bell should be moved too. he could bring back two solid players. The padres could have refueled their major league and minor league rosters by moving three or four guys. They need a complete rebuild.

Braves #1 fan, If we still had Elvus Andrus, Jarrod Saltalamachia, Matt Harrison, Nefatali Feliz, and the other pitcher i gave up whose name i forgot, then Escobar, David Ross, Casey Kotchman, Kenshin Kawakami, and several more players would not be on this team now. The Braves rotation in 2010 could have been by Hanson, Jurrjens, Feliz, Harrison, and Medlen. Who knows what this team could have been. Did the Texiera trade just devestate this franchise, no. But had the trade not happened who knows what this team could have been.

Furman Bishop is a moron.

Honestly, anyone who still reads the AJC for their Braves news...or any news in general is as much of a moron as Furman Bishop. I am just so amazed that a professional sports writer doesn't know that of course Chipper is a 10/5 guy. In the words of Red Forman....DUMB A$$

bravoboy10 I see your point but you never know what could have happened i mean they could have got hurt but the braves rotation couldve been great we wouldnt of had any expierience in our rotatation

Mr. Bisher you need to stay outta little five points and please take a step back from the crack pipe. that is the only possible explanation for your lack of use of brain cells for this thought process. AJC should start manatory drug testing.

Tex didnt make the Brave better just thinner and I truly agree with braveboy10 just think of thatof, Jurrjens, Feliz, Harrison, and Medlen.

While it's nice to dream of having the tex trade guys and i lament the decision often, there is no guarantee the players we traded would have developed like they have. Also I believe we thought that Tex would sign long term with us because he went to GT and his wife lived in the atlanta area most of her life. It hurts to have made the deal but it could have very easily turned out to be in favor of the braves. People also forget that we got Brett DeVall as part of the deal (comp. pick for mahay) and he could end up as the third best player in the deal still on either TX or ATL

My only question about Chipper is this, is someone who misses 40 games a year somebody you can have as your key player. I have always loved Chipper, but the idea of trading him has crossed my mind. I'm not happy with our ownership situation at all, Ted Turner would've done what was necessary to keep Chip and get better players. I remember in JS book Built To Win, he references signing Maddux and how he was torn between going after Barry Bonds or Maddux, and Ted Turner told him "You want em' both, go get em'". My only point is with the team's situation financially, if you can get a couple young guys who are major league ready, I think you may have to at least listen. Cincinatti got a lot more competitive after Griffey and Dunn left and Tim Kurkjian of espn said repeatedly during spring training that those guys dominated the clubhouse and made other players uncomfortable. Now we don't have a Joey Votto to take the reins but we do have Brian McCann. I just don't know if we are going to be competing for a WS in the next 3-4 years and I guess I can understand the thought process of Mr. Bisher, but no way can FW do it. He would be absolutely crucified, even though every deal that he has made, except dealing Devine for Kotsay, has been a pretty good one. I think this would fall under the best deals that he didn't do category, like not signing Burnett, or Furcal, and not trading for Jake Peavy. Say what you want to about Smoltz and Glavine's situations but I agree that they made us better. It is June 21 and Smoltz hasn't pitched 1 game. How much could he have helped us his year honestly, we probably wouldn't have signed KK and would've had JoJo or Morton pitching in the fifth spot. Would we have been able to get McLouth without including Morton. IDK but it had to happen sooner or later and while I hated to see them go, right now I'm glad we did it.

I have never read the AJC but it sounds like this guy is just an old fart with absolutely no idea what is going on around him. I saw the reason behind not pursuing Smoltz better and I saw the reason for releasing Glavine. Both deals had to do with insecurity and when you have put a contending team together, insecurity is not something you want. But getting rid of Chipper would make no sense whatsoever. He is our best hitter and brings that veteran presence that every team needs. Chipper Jones is the city of Atlanta and always will be. Screw off you old @$$ hole.

Padres have a good minor league system especially after AAA just look at the records, by far the most underrated in the game, they have Starting Arms, loaded in OF and corner IF, the only weakness is up the middle on Infield and a little light on relievers

Could the padres deal Bell to the fish for skipworth?
