According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan the Rangers acquired pitcher Jason Grilli from the Rockies. He was designated for assignment on Friday after allowing more than two baserunners per frame over the course of 19.1 innings with the Rockies. Grilli, who did strike out 22 batters, was obtained for cash considerations.
The Rangers have been looking for relievers, and while they're likely not finished, this move gives them depth. Yet another reason to follow MLBTR on Twitter: we reported speculation about this move on Twitter yesterday.

Grilli was fantastic in 2007-2008, showing increased velocity and more movement on his stuff, reflected in his increased K rate and a decreased HR/9.
He was missing more bats than ever this year (10.24 K/9), but his walk rate is way up to 6.05 per 9, although he's gotten beat up by some horrible luck, as hitters posted a .454 BABIP against him, and his FIP was a decent 4.20 this year.
He could be a decent addition to their bullpen.

Odd that no one else wanted him ? Maybe another gift like O'Day was. Guess everyone elses bullpens are loaded.

"He could be a decent addition to their bullpen."
Any addition is an improvement to the Ranger BP

and once again someone shows their sad knowledge of this year's Rangers...thanks "johns"

Johns probably thinks the Angels are leading the division. Frankie and O'Day have been lights out. CJ has had ups and downs, but has been pretty damn good himself. If Grilli can get his luck going a different way, I welcome this move with open arms.

Closer and setup are outstanding, that is a given. Everything in between is a tossup and when the Rangers have problems with starters going over 5 innings it can hurt like Holland does. Not hammering them, just saying they need to pick up pitching help, cause Kris Bensen is not the answer.
BTW: Nice pick up drafting Purke today, was hoping he would fall down to #28 and Boston would get him, figures Texas would draft the home "town" Texas guys :-)
