Rosenthal On Tejada, Rockies, Mets

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports argues that the Cubs don't need to make a trade, they just need their hitters to start producing. Here are his most recent rumors:

  • Ed Wade says Miguel Tejada's impending free agency is part of the reason the Astros aren't asking him to move from shortstop to third base. Tejada would probably move, but Wade would rather not ask him to.
  • The Rockies are looking hard for relief help. They were interested in Joel Hanrahan earlier in the season, but he's much less appealing now.
  • LaTroy Hawkins, Chad Qualls and Takashi Saito are all more appealing than Hanrahan, but Rosenthal says they're "longshots."
  • The Rockies aren't that interested in Cla Meredith and Danys Baez
  • One GM said the Royals are under pressure to win as many games as possible this year.
  • The D'Backs believe Doug Davis has more value as a trade chip because he projects as a Type B free agent. Check out the latest Elias rankings here.
  • One official believes the Mets are better off with Daniel Murphy than Nick Johnson
  • When the Cardinals inquired on Matt Holliday they heard the A's aren't looking to move him and would require a strong offer to part with him.

Tejada to first? Damn thanks for playin Miguel.. hes thats bad nowadays?

I dont understand, you have Lee and Pence on the corners.
Berkman should not be moved to the outfield.

Actually I have seen Tejada make routine plays look really hard, so I am not the surprised.

I think first base should read third base in the Tejada blurb

Rosenthal's article mentions Tejada to 3B not 1B...

Well, UZR hates Tejada's performance so far at SS. He's currently ranked as the 5th worst defensive SS in the game amongst those who are qualified.

"One GM said the Royals are under pressure to win as many games as possible this year."

That's really not far considering they started the season with Horacio and Ponson as the 4th and 5th starters. This team was destined for a 75 win season from the start.

"When the Cardinals inquired on Matt Holliday they heard the A's aren't looking to move him and would require a strong offer to part with him."

How many times must this be said before people quit asking about him? I wish Beane would issue a public statement saying he'd need a Dan Haren-esque deal to part with Holliday, and seeing as someone would have to be insane to do that, it would make it semi-official that Holliday is being kept for the draft picks.

The cubs do need to trade for offensive help. Ramirez is coming back next week but he said that he would not play in day games that are after night games.Plus they have had no offensive production from the 2B position, and Kosuke is going into his 2nd half slump again.

Besides, Peter Gammons already said that the cubs are going to improve their offense via trade on Sportscenter last night. I keep hearing that they are going after Mark Teahen of KC.

" I keep hearing that they are going after Mark Teahen of KC."

Teahen would probably be a better pickup over the long haul Cubbie fans, you get him for 2 1/2 years and get basically the same thing that DeRosa would have brought in positions played, only if you can "fix" that long swing of his, you may finally unlock the 30+ HR potential in the friendly confines of Wrigley. The problem? Not sure the Cubbies have the young talent/pitching to get any deal done...

Except that Teahen isn't that good. He's also redundant with Fontenot (2009 struggles = BABIP) and Reed Johnson on the team.

"When the Cardinals inquired on Matt Holliday they heard the A's aren't looking to move him and would require a strong offer to part with him."

LEVERAGE. If the A's "have" to trade him (which they don't), they lose leverage. Make it clear that Beane's got 100% of the leverage.

Someone is going to offer knockout goods. I want to try to get the Cubs into the bidding when they bench Bradley, just to boost leverage.

And yes, the A's have the flexibility to assume salary. Why wouldn't they? I assume insurance is paying a chunk of Chavez's contract, since he's been out for so long.

Melonis -- Youre Beane and im Omar. Niese, Murphy and Parnell for Holliday and we will take a contract back. Crosby maybe? Whattya say? If you have anymore suggestions for your salary dump let them out. Crosby must be still be owed 2-3 million this year right?

metsknicksrutgers- I say no.

Niese and Parnell are great pitching prospects, but Niese, the better of the two, would rank behind all 3 of MAC and arguably Gallagher in terms of the prospects who are either in or close to MLB. Granted that Braden has emerged as a TOR type, the A's have really deep pitching, starting and relief. Murphy's the only guy who fills a team need, if he can stick at 3B. If he moves to 1B, guys like Carter/Doolittle are close to MLB ready and have more upside.

And, the A's in recent years have been willing to eat salary to get more in a trade (see: Kendall, Kotsay), not dump more salary to reduce the prospect value coming back.

They'll probably outright release Crosby, not package him with Holliday to get salary relief.

Melonis -- Very true with kendall and kotsay. And i figure beane wouldnt be too keen on a guy like Flores who is pretty far away, and i am really starting to like Ruben Tejada. What would you want back for him? Although, id love to have Holliday i really wouldnt mind if you guys made a roaring late season comeback like you generally have throughout the decade. Always rootin for the A's
