« Olney On Halladay, Bay, Mulder | Main | Roy Halladay Rumors: Thursday »
Magglio Ordonez and Clete Thomas are now platooning in right field, which could prevent Magglio's $18MM option from vesting for next year. Because he played regularly last season, Maggs needs to start 126 games or bat 457 times for his option to kick in. He won't likely start 126 games, since Thomas will get the call against righties, but 457 plate appearances remain within Maggs' grasp.

This is an intelligent idea.
This makes me wonder, which former stud gets released first, if at all: Maggs, Milton Bradley, or Jason Giambi?

Its nice to see one of those crazy Boras contracts backfire once in a while.

As a White Sox fan, I hope his option kicks in, as a Boras hater, I hope it doesn't so I'm torn. I just think it's funny how far he's fallen.

Should just release Mags now - he's done.
I'm assuming there's no clause that the money for 2010 vests if he's released.

Three things can happen with Mags:
- He continues to stink it up and the Tigers release him
- He gets better and Leyland starts him more and his option for 2010 vests
- Some crazy team trades for him
Personally, I hope we get lucky and some crazy team trades for him so the Tigers don't have to worry about him anymore.

The Bradley Countdown: 68 games, 7 left until options are guaranteed.
Please, Hendry, show some freaking balls and release this guy. Between his horrid defense and the health and character issues, you'll have enough of an argument to win a grievance.
If we're going to get crappy defense out of that spot anyway, might as well give Hoffpauir and/or Fox the spot and save the team a lot of money going forward.
I know this is all a pipe dream though, Hendry won't do it.

Just release him.

Maggs is popular with teammates. Leyland likewise has the respect of the team. If Maggs keeps hitting below Mendoza with one homer a week, Leyland will cut him and make it stick. The hard part will be if Maggs perks up enough to play but nowhere near enough to want to pay him big bucks.
After all, he stands to make Ryan Howard money, not just big money. If he were the AL Triple Crown Winner in 2009 and had no option, no one would pay him $18M in 2010.
If this option vests I would be amazed.
