« Victor Martinez Rumors: Thursday | Main | Odds & Ends: Yankees, Mets, Red Sox »
According to a press release, the Royals acquired outfielder Josh Anderson from the Tigers for cash considerations. The speedster hit .242/.282/.315 with 13 steals in 15 tries for Detroit before being designated for assignment. The Royals say they'll make a corresponding roster move once they determine Anderson's reporting date.
MLB.com's Jason Beck notes that the Royals and Yankees also had interest in Anderson.

The .282 OBP sealed the deal.

Nooooooo! I loved Josh Anderson

Don't worry guys, its all part of Dayton Moore's plan to build the team full of AAAA stars.
Next thing you know, he'll be trading DeJesus for Gary Matthews Jr!

No love lost here for a speedster who can't get on base, overruns balls in the outfield, and makes bonehead baserunning decisions.
I wish we could have gotten something more tho.

It's a shame that the Tigers couldn't get anything more than cash for him. I know that the Yankees were interested, and if they offered anyone, the Tigers would be crazy to have turned it down.

So a bad base runner and horrible OBP? Why does DM keep thinking this is a good idea?
Posted by: Hadrian | July 30, 2009 at 11:45 AM
we couldnt even get a low-a random prospect?
at least he's off our hands...i couldnt stand him.

Mark Teahen is not in today's starting lineup FWIW.

Traded for ca$h, GREAT! That should be enough to go out and send prospects to Washington for Adam Dunn and his $12 mil contract.
Oh, you don't think Josh was worth $12 mil to the Royals? Shucks!

I swear Dayton Moore is trying to build a team out of the Braves farm system. Davies, Pena Jr, Bryan Pena, Anderson, Horacio Ramirez.

"Don't worry guys, its all part of Dayton Moore's plan to build the team full of AAAA stars."
Actually, it's his plan to build a team with former Braves that sucked.

This just means that Teahen is on the way out the door somewhere else today. At least he didn't move any prospects for Anderson. I'm not a fan of this move by any means, but it's better to send a little cash than a player when you're getting someone as bad as Anderson.

And Mariners.

Is Freel about to get cut from his third team this year? This guy may have some potential but seriously when will DM give up on this Braves-Mariners re-run

Any Royals fans have a take on Teahen? Being a Cub fan, I have heard the rumors of a possibly Cub interest in him. I know he can play multiple positions, which is always a good thing! Any other rumors of where he might go?

Could this possibly lead to the Tigers making an even bigger move? I can see them giving cash to someone in a deal now. So glad to be rid of Anderson, he couldn't hit, and when he got on base, he got picked off. Goodbye, and good riddance. =]

Jammin: Personal opinion on Teahen. Quality guy that can play just about any position decent. Hits for average but never quite panned out on the power side. Would hate to see him leave KC but it is looking likely...

As a Royals fan, I think Teahen would be a good addition to the Cubs. I'll be upset if we don't get something decent in return, which will likely be the case. Teahen is an underated player, mostly because he plays in Kansas City. He is a line drive hitter with pop, is currenty hitting above .290, is patient at the plate (sometimes to patient, as he has taken a few too many called 3rd strikes), has good speed that isn't utilized by Hillman, is a solid baserunner, and can play multiple position adequately. If he deserves a starting spot somewhere. the only reason he isn't the Royals starting 3rd baseman is because the front office handed the position to the unproven Alex Gordon in hopes that he would develop (which has yet to happen).

Wow. Why didn't I see this coming? Of course the Royals wanted Anderson because he is a former Braves!!! Nice to have a AAAA Braves team. If only we could call Greinke up LMAO!

The word from Jayson Stark is now that the Cubs aren't looking at Teahen. As for Anderson, how is this guy any different than the failed Joey Gathright?
Posted by: labsorhorses | July 30, 2009 at 01:04 PM
I want to know why we didn't get a player?
Posted by: Charles | July 30, 2009 at 01:07 PM
Why no player?
Posted by: Charles | July 30, 2009 at 01:08 PM
Why? W_W_W_W_W_H_H_H_Y–Y_Y_Y_Y_Y!?!?!?!
Posted by: crash | July 30, 2009 at 01:40 PM
"Why no player?"
Because Josh Anderson isn't worth one...

Royals fan here i said the other day that teahen is a good LF and RF with a cannon. He can also play 1B and 3B. He is was to play 2B this year but with the injury to Gordon didnt see much of that. He can hit to the opposite field and has some pop in his bat. He just can't seem to hit with runners on base.

There have been rumors that he will go to the Mets or the Giants, too. He is a great baserunner with solid stats batting-wise. Actually, probably one of the two best batters the Royals have, which definitely is not saying much.
