I have no problem with getting minimal return for Lowe if someone will take his contract. Or even a contract for contract swap as long as it's a power bat coming out way. Carlos Lee for Derek Lowe would be intriguing to me.

I would love to see a Derek Lowe and Kelly Johnson for Carlos Lee swap. Where would Jordan Schafer play though? He'd be some nice trade bait for a good closer I suppose.

Please no to Lee! Lee is to much of a liability in the field for me. I would rather have an aging ground ball pitcher than a aging overweight outfield slugger.
Why must the Braves trade a pitcher? They have 6 quality Chances are one of them will get hurt next year or spend some time on the DL. Play out the first half of next season and see how yoru staff shakes out. Resign LaRoche, platoon Diaz/Church, sign Coco Crisp on a 1 year deal if Schaffer isn't ready and and turn Heyward loose. If Haywrard isn't ready to cut it, then trade a pitcher before the deadline to get a bat.

I would approve of a Lee Lowe swap.
I would also approve of putting Lowe on outright waivers and letting a team have him for free.

YES, move Chipper to first base...please.Prado at third, Infante at second.
Not hard to figure that one out.

I remember being called nuts last year when I said anyone expecting Lowe to be an "ace" was nuts and that he was going to be severely overpaid.
Good for Lowe being able to trick someone into overpaying for his junkballing backside.

If the Braves could find a taker for Lowe's contract we could retain both Gonzo and Soriano along with LaRoche. Then we could go hard after Uggla and sign him to an extention.

Infante is not a starting MLB second baseman.

An outfield of Diaz, McLouth, and Lee would be pretty formidable. I think that's a really good deal for the Braves and it's also pretty good for the Astros.
As a Reds fan I would love to get Lee out of the NL Central.

Try Lee, McLouth, Heyward. With Diaz as the 4th OF and Schafer waiting or on the block.

There must be something in the water down in the ATL.

I guess columnists can overvalue the players they follow just as much as fans. Lowe's velocity and ground ball rates are down and his walks are up. Does O'Brien really think teams out there won't look beyond his 15 wins and think "yep, $15 million a year for a declining 36 year-old sounds about right"?
Don't get me wrong. Lowe still has value, but I'd guesstimate that the Braves would have to eat about half that contract to move him.

For those of you thinking your going to get Carlos Lee for Derek Lowe you have to be joking. Lee plays everyday is a .300 hitter with 30 home run power. Yeah he's overpayed but that has been known since he signed the contract. Lee still has 4 years and $74 million coming his way. Derek Lowe has 3 years and $45 million on his deal.
So for those of you thinking that trading Lowe for Lee would save money it wouldn't. Lee is owed $18.5 million per season the last 4 years of the contract. Lowe is owed $15 million per season the last 3 years. It would cost Atlanta $3.5 million the next 3 seasons then the full price the 4th year.
Besides your not going to get a player of Lee's quality for Lowe in a contract swap.
A few teams and players that could be interested are: Angels with GM Jr. He has 2 years and $23 million remaining. The Angels need a starter and can afford Lowe's contract although the Braves may have to pay some of it. The Cubs have Fukudome. He has 2 years and $26.5 million remaining. The Cubs stand to lose a few starters the offseason Lowe would be a good fit for that ballpark. Again the Braves would have to eat some of Lowe's salary.
Thats just a few I found I'm sure there are more.

Mets should trade Castillo for Zambrano (not straight up with some fluff perhaps) and then sign DeRosa to play 2B. Then sign Matt Holliday and Webb (if he becomes a free agent) and the Mets r golden.
Posted by: diehardmets | October 02, 2009 at 04:09 PM
According to Cot's, Lee only has 3 yrs left at 18.5 mill per (55 mill total), compared to Lowe for 3 yrs at 15 mill per (45 mill total). Still a lot of money, but if you're going to spend it, better to have it going to a 33 y.o hitter that has consistently hit for avg and power than spending it on a 36 y.o. pitcher coming off a terrible year.
p.s. The rest of the league forgot that Kelly Johnson was still meddling in the Bigs.

Castillo for Zambrano? HAHAHA
You must be thinking Victor Zambrano because the Mets will have to include a LOT of fluff to get Big Z.
Why not not trade Donnie Murphy for Adrian Gonzalez and Angel Pagan for Lincecum and then you will really be golden.

"Poor Chicago: first they get screwed by [Alex] Rios, then they get screwed by Rio."
Well not for me. I didnt want Chicago to get the olympics, plus I think the Rios pickup isnt as bad as it looks. That was a move for next year just as much as was the Peavy trade. Im sure Rios will bounce back. Even if he doesnt, its still too soon to judge the pickup. Wait until All-Star break next year for a final answer. Until then i believe in Rios

And by Donnie Murphy I mean Daniel Murphy.

o the same Derek Lowe that every Met fan was screaming at Minaya to sign...lol...funny...I dont see any fans giving him credit for passing up on Lowe or even Zito...
and as far as 2nd baseman go...Luis Castillo has not been that bad..
he was 2nd in MLB out of all 2nd baseman in batting average...

Yeah, he passed on Lowe and instead signed Oliver Pere...ooooohhh.
