« Cardinals Release Brad Thompson | Main | Discussion: Xavier Nady »
White Sox lefty John Danks hopes to sign a multiyear extension with the White Sox, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. The 24-year-old is eligible for arbitration for the first time this winter.
Though he was thrilled to receive it, Danks turned down a four-year, $15.5MM offer from the White Sox on the advice of his agent Jeff Berry before the season. Gavin Floyd accepted the same offer. With another fine season in the books, Danks will probably require $16MM+ to cover his three arbitration years and $11-13MM per each free agent year.

This makes me really happy. hopefully We can keep Danks, and Floyd past 2012. Out rotation that is killer right now dissappears after 2012.I'm hoping to bring Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Back for a long time.

White Sox have a monster rotation. Even if Freddy Garcia turns back into a bum, they're going to be tough for other teams to get series wins from.
Defense needs work though.

"Defense needs work though."
Offense needs more work. If they can pick up a couple of good bats then I like their chances of taking Central division. Otherwise it'll be an uphill battle and the first pitcher injury will ruin them.

I agree.
Beckham, Ramirez, Getz/Nix and Konerko is a solid defensive infield, assuming that Beckham improves at third base.
UZR has had a lot of trouble with Quentin, they've loved him in right field but hated him in left. Assuming that the Sox add a solid defender for left field, I think that Rios and Quentin can comprise a solid outfield.
Really, they need to focus on adding a leadoff hitter and someone to replace Thome's lefty power in the batting order.
They have some solid guys and a lot of upside in Beckham, Quentin, Ramirez and Rios, but I could see them being interested in adding someone like Adam Dunn, or maybe even bringing back Thome to take his place as the primary DH.

I'd love to see the white sox go for broke and beast out on SP.
With more solid starter I can see this team being dominant. Look at how the rotation would look with 1 addition
Peavy
Buehrle
Danks
Floyd
Harden/Sheets
Garcia/Hudson(Insurance SP)
Now I put Harden & Sheets towards the bottom of the depth chart because they are obvious health concerns but with front of the rotation ability.
Dont quite depend on them, have a backup, then watch them do their thing.
I'd hate to face Peavy, Harden, Buehrle in a short series.
Now the obvious flaw with the white sox is their hitting. I suggest resigning Dye(12-1 M option) and moving him to DH.
Then since their payroll is rather high already go a bit cheap with the best OF available in FA this year which is Nady.
Getting Harden/Sheets on the cheap, resigning Dye, getting Nady makes them World series contenders IMO.
Lineup
(L)Getz (2B)
(R)Ramirez (SS)
(R)Dye (DH)
(R)Quentin (LF)
(R)Konerko (1B)
(R)Beckham (3B)
(R)Nady
(L)Pierzynski (C)
(R)Rios
*SP Rotation*
Peavy
Buehrle
Danks
Floyd
Harden/Sheets
*Bullpen*
Jenks (Closer)
Thornton (Insurance for Jenks/ 8th inning guy.)
Dotel/Linebrick
Carrasco(innings guy)
I'm not even sure about the other guys they have as I'm not a white sox fan.
It has it's flaws but I like that team.

I think you're underestimating just how much talent there is between Floyd and Danks. Both of them have the capability to become Peavy-like(young and dominant).
I'm sure there will be much more discussion about the whole team once the offseason outlook for the White Sox gets posted but this rotation doesn't need more work until their batting order gets worked out.

Heh, I guess I missed the offseason outlook for the White Sox but I still stand by my comment..they do need to figure out who's batting lead off and who's playing in the outfield as opposed to batting DH. Putting Quentin at DH if they can't get Thome will be well off.

Totally agree, but realistically the White Sox would have to add two outfielders then, because right now outside of Rios and Quentin, Brent Lillibridge and Alejandro De Aza are the next two outfielders on the depth chart, and I don't think that anyone considers them everyday options at this point.
Pretty much either way, they need to add two OF/DH for next season.

I wonder Kenny would consider trading Danks for a big bat. The Sox have such a deep rotation that they could afford losing Danks to get a premium bat.

This team will be scary if Ramirez and Quentin rebound and Beckham continues to improve. IMO, they should bring back Posednik to lead off. Big question is, do they resign Dye or go after another RF?
1. Posednik LF
2. Getz 2B
3. Dye? RF
4. Quentin DH
5. Konerko 1B
6. Pierzynski C
7. Beckham 3B
8. Ramirez SS
9. Rios CF
Bench1: Flowers C
Bench2: Nix IF
Bench3: Wise OF
Bench4: Kotsay 1B/OF
SP1: Peavy
SP2: Buerhle
SP3: Danks
SP4: Floyd
SP5: Garcia
CL: Jenks (maybe
SU: Thornton
RP: Linebrink
RP: Carrasco
RP: Pena
RP: Nunez
RP: Williams??
Other than the bullpen which is mediocre after Thornton and Jenks. This is a pretty solid, potentially scary team.

They definitely should not trade Danks. That is just crazy talk!
Posted by: SoxChevyGirl | November 04, 2009 at 03:21 PM
Look forward to seeing Jordan and John on the same roster.
Posted by: southsider | November 04, 2009 at 03:31 PM
I still don't get why Beckham isn't playing SS. He is excellent there and doesn't need to "learn" the position.
Posted by: AA | November 04, 2009 at 04:47 PM
...wasn't Alexi naturally a cf?
Posted by: nick21 | November 04, 2009 at 05:10 PM
I personally would like to see Brandon Hynick as the 5th starter. He doesn't walk many people and has proven himself at the AAA Level as an effective starter. The Sox stole him from Colorado and his time to shine is coming really soon.

Sign Danks for 4-5 years
Re-sign Pods 1 year with option
Re-sign Kotsay 1 year
Sign LH bullpen arm
Sign Randy Winn for 1 year.(Jordan Danks should be ready to fill any OF spot in 2011, so Winn could give about the same production Danks will in 2011)
Id like to see this
1. Pods DH
2. Beckham 3B
3. Quentin LF
4. Konerko 1B
5. AJ C
6. Rios CF
7. Ramirez SS
8. Randy Winn RF
9. Getz 2B
Rotate the DH and OF. Put Kotsay in there often.

Or they can trade with the Orioles for Pie if he comes easier than Winn.
Posted by: Rock&RollGangsta | November 04, 2009 at 05:35 PM
why in the world would the sox want felix pie..... dumb comment rocknroll

I have a feeling Ramirez can rebound this year and go back to the 25/25 Hr SB potential he always had. If he can do that the Sox will have the best rotation and batting order in the AL central!!! Cmon Alexei

I think KW will extend Danks. Freddy is serviceable for the year, but I really expect Hudson to get a lot of starts over the season. After the nightmare of Colon and Contreras in 2009, I think KW wants a solid top to bottom rotation. Extending Danks gives him this and perhaps the best rotation in the AL.
IMO Two very big questions linger over the Chisox over the winter-1 Whether they retain Bobby Jenks, which I think is 50/50 at best and 2) a LH power bat(DH and/or LF). Dealing Jenks will free up enough money to pursue a type A FA to a one year deal (Jordan Danks should be ready for prime time in 2011)and if one is in reach, KW may deal Bobby and move Thorton to the closer role. I think Dye is gone and Quentin will move to RF.
A revitalized Ramirez and Quentin would make this team a scary one indeed.

Beckham will have about 25 HR and somewhere above 75 rbi's 15 steals, Quentin 30+ HR and 100+ rbi's, Rios 20+ HR 80+ rbi's 20 steals, Ramirez 25-25 HR 75-80 rbi's, Getz, 30+ steals with a .280+, Konerko 25-30 HR 90+ rbi's, AJ will have another AJ year, DH/LF combined at worst will have 30 HR and 130 rbi's(if LF is pods), Peavy 15+ wins, Buerhle 15ish wins, Danks 13+ win, Floyd 15ish, and the 5th starter Garcia/Hudson will have 12-15, the bullpen will need a new face or 2 i like Nunez to be a good set up man and I know Jenks is on his way out of town but he's been soild until now he deserves another year, what if he has a brad lidge make over if we trade him how dumb would trading him be then

I don't think any team has depth in their rotation the best way to win is have at least 5 good starts thats what made the 05 sox so good they had 4 great starts and eduqi was good too. The sox definatly don't need more offense the very worst player they could possible get is Adam Dunn hes the type of player how gets u 2 runs and cost u 3 and he strikes out more than ryan howard. Dunns a fun player to watch i saw him hit a building across the street a from wrigley field but he is not a good player to have on a team espally a team that lost so many game on defense and sicuwationally hitting. "and did you know he dosn't even like baseball" just kidding thats that idiot from canada JP ricciardi thank for rios for nothing by the way. I think quinton is any aright field to he was just hurt last year so he was slow he has one of the best arms i've seen
They need to improve their bullpen get rid of linbrnk and octavio make thorton the close when theirs lefts in the ninth. kepp and DH pods and if the get. and improve on defense. I think they shoul leadoff chone figgons and play ihim at third move alexi to center hes just not smart enough to play SS. Move GOrDon to SS. The out field whould be Q/Pods in LF and JD/Rios in RF and they could use 5 differnet Dh's to rest guys and JD can play first.

Here my lineup
1. Chone Figgons S/R 3b
2. Gordon Beckham R/R SS
3. Carlos Quenton R/R LF/DH
4. J Dye R/R RF/DH/1b
5. AJ Pierziski L/R C
6. Paul Konerko R/R 1b/DH
7. Chris Getz R/R 2b
8. Alexi Rameruz R/R CF
9. Scott PodsednikL/L OF Dh
Bench
Alex Rios would play some where almost everyday OF DH
They could get Casey Kotchman or Nick Johnson or keep Mark Kotsay for a utilty left 1b with some power.
Fields should be the back up at 3b base he can play first and he has a ton of power.
and Nix is the back in MLD INF
and i like flowers as the back up Catcher
Starting Pitching
1. Mark Buerhle LHP
2. Jake Peavy RHP
3. Jank Danks LHP
4. Gavin Floyd RHP
5. Freddy Garica RHP
i thin Jon garland would be good 5th starter i really like him but i think he could come back and be about .500 which is all they need with the first 4 or Torres or Hudson could pitch their too. Any 5th starter who get rolling would be a valuable reliver in october.
Bullpen
Thortons good no one else is they should keep thorton and Jenks and randy williams was good at the end of the year and then clean out and hope u get lucky and find some like Neal Cotts or Cliff Polite or Dustin Hermanson like 05
Im ecited about being alble to see a good starter any time i go to a game and having a good shot to win every game
