« Eleven Option Decisions Made Today | Main | Phillies Considering Third Base Options »
The Marlins have declined Ross Gload's 2010 option according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro. Had the team picked up the option, Gload would have made $2.6MM next season. He did not receive a buyout, according to information provided at Cot's Baseball Contracts.
The 33-year-old Gload hit .261/.329/.400 in 259 plate appearances last year, but the lefty swinger excelled off the bench, hitting .318/.418/.455 in 79 plate appearances as a pinch hitter. He even threw a scoreless inning for good measure.

well...no surprise yes i can see him go to the Orioles. Today is going to be a full day of mostly declining options...There are barely any to pick or they will decline and sign them an extension like Tim Hudson. You can see the Giants get this guy if they recieve noone in the offseason . Like i said with Kearns, both Kearns and Gload are low signings but you never know they could be good I mean the worst that could happen is you release them. AT least you tried. I can only see a low offensive team pick Gload up but maybe like a ST louis might pick him up maybe some days give pujols a rest maybe?

He was a great pinch hitter this season. The Marlins had 2 of the best pinch hitters in the game with Helms and Gload. Its a shame we couldnt keep him.

His numbers are just the result of a small sample size. I do not believe there is a single player in MLB history who has had a statistically significant number of PAs as a pinch hitter who put up better numbers than he did when he was a non-pinch hitter.

He still lead the league in pinch hits and was very clutch, along with excellent defense. He is a great bench guy for any team.

Mike, where do you pull this pinch hitting data from?

A good player off the bench I'm thinkin St. Louis and if not then maybe the Giants because they are desperate for some offensive players

Hopefully this means he can't hurt the Braves anymore!
The man was a beast.
