Of all those teams listed as possible destinations for Crawford, only the NYY and Anaheim make much sense. Boston can’t see spending 15M per season for a duplicate of Ellsbury and the rest are poor mouthing teams. Only way can see Boston even looking like interested is to drive up the cost for the NYY, where he seems headed regardless,

NYM could be a darkhorse as a corner OF.

Crawford has more power and is has more refined hitting skills then Ellsbury. Drew and Cameron will be in their last years of their contracts, It would stop him from going to the yankees and they could have a 1-3 hitters in thier lineup that could average a .300/.360/.430 with totals 40 HRs,150+ steals and 300+ runs (Ells, Crawford, Pedrioa) and excellent outfield feilding (Crawford, Ells, and Drew/Cameron)

Seems like a good fit for the long term defense/pitching idea and he is a good hitter, they’ll have money to spend even of they resign Martinez and Beltre. Just Don’t know if they would out bid the yankees.

He’s got 3k’s so far today, so they’ll probably wait until Monday to finish it.

If Gammons is already talking about how he’s going to save the game of baseball, it’s the closest thing to kiss of death/Cover of SI the kid can get.

Don’t forget, he also told us Manny Delcarmen was the best reliever in baseball 2 seasons ago and that Lars Anderson should be starting in Boston winning all star games at 1b by now.

Yeah, that was a bad prediction by Gammons but MDC still has a lot of upside. He had an off-year last season which was effected by an injury that he only disclosed to the Sox in September. Then his mechanics seem to have gotten messed up this spring as well as his FB losing a few MPH. Still, he has the pure stuff to turn it around and become a premium late-inning guy or even a future closer in the coming years. At the very least, he’s gonna be a solid middle-inning relief guy.

“looks at some players making big money who are candidates to be released”

Although none of them qualify as “big money” individually, I nominate releasing the entire Cubs bullpen. That has a combined total of about 11 million, and clearly eating it is a good investment.

Oh, and someone please for the love of God release our GM already!

Package Tommy Hanson, Kris Medlen, Freddie Freeman, and Jason Heyward to Boston for Kevin Youkilis, Jacoby Ellsbury, John Lester, and Dustin Pedroia. lol
