Gustavo Molina Clears Waivers

By Zachary Links | July 20, 2010 at 4:10pm CDT

TUESDAY: Molina cleared waivers, according to the Boston Globe.

SUNDAY: The Red Sox have designated catcher Gustavo Molina for assignment, according to a team press release.  The move was made in order to promote reliever Michael Bowden who will try to help turn around Boston's bullpen.

Molina, 28, was called up to the big league squad on June 29th.  The catcher made two starts for the club and appeared in four games total.  His promotion to Boston marked his first major league cameo since 2008, when he played in two games for the Mets.

I thought the same thing, but he isn’t another Molina brother.

We need a new group of brothers that each take one part of the triangle of a hitter.

Here’s to hoping that Bowden’s 1.043 WHIP in AAA will translate to the Majors.

Like how your 5 inning no-hitter translated to a successful career?

Having developed a slider that doesn’t just hang there anymore is a definite plus.

Bowden looked solid tonight. Hopefully him and MDC can really solidify that bridge to Bard and Paps.

3rd string catcher at the beginning of the year for the Red Sox AAA team. tells you how good this guy is. Only reason he got called up is both Dusty Brown and Mark Wagner were both on the AAA DL when Varitek and VMart got hurt.

Not even sure if the Sox will want him back at the AAA Pawtucket club with Ibarra about to come onboard. Lavarnway was just promoted to AA Portland, where top catching prospect Exposito already is. Would think that possibly Expo could be moved to Pawtucket next to see how close he is.

Michael Bowden could be the pitcher that keep your prospects on your farm, if he struggles, Theo will have to make a trade because your relievers arent getting it done this year.
