Marlins Release Dewayne Wise

By Tim Dierkes | March 30, 2011 at 9:14am CDT

Outfielder Dewayne Wise exercised his out clause and has been released by the Marlins, tweets Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.  Wise was reassigned to minor league camp yesterday, losing the big league backup outfielder job to Scott Cousins partially because of a toe injury.

Wise, 33, hit .250/.282/.393 in 118 plate appearances for the Blue Jays last year, putting up a .270/.315/.511 line for the Phillies' Triple-A club before exercising his out clause.  Wise is capable of playing all three outfield positions.  He joins free agent outfielders such as Ryan Church, Randy Winn, and Gabe Gross.

His UZR disagrees with the lay opinion of his defense, and he can’t hit for much. The Marlins won’t miss him – good luck, elsewhere, Mr. Wise.

Why does Toronto need him back? They have no room or need for him…

            Nope, of our’s.

            There’s a group of Blue Jays’ fans–myself included–that love the guy! 🙂

      Wise can’t play the infield…

I would rather have Wise than Patterson though

If he can’t play the infield then let’s ask Mark Buehrle if he can play the OF, he’ll tell us Wise sure as hell can play CF

There edited to make it more clear

Are we also going to ask Mr. Buehrle if CF counts as the infield?

That was my point. If he can’t play the infield, he can play the OF.

I remember July 4, 2010 – Losing Brett Gardiner’s fly for an inside the park Homerun. Throwing out Teixeira at home from a A-Rod pop-up. Hitting a 3 run HR off Phil Huges and hitting a game tying single off of Mariano Rivera.
