Heyman On Wright, Kuroda, Gonzalez, Marlins

By Luke Adams 2 | December 5, 2011 at 5:13pm CDT

Here's the latest from MLB Network's Jon Heyman's Twitter feed:

  • The Mets received a couple unsolicited "bad" trade offers for David Wright, but have no plans to move him.
  • The Diamondbacks are known to be targeting Hiroki Kuroda, and a report this morning indicated talks between the two sides were getting more serious. However, Heyman spoke to a source who believed it was a "stretch" that the right-handed would sign with Arizona.
  • Athletics GM Billy Beane is telling teams he's not anxious to trade Gio Gonzalez.
  • One GM called the reported six-year offer on the table to C.J. Wilson "nuts."
  • The Marlins continue to say they're serious about their pursuit of Albert Pujols, even with Jose Reyes and Heath Bell on board.

I would think its the Nationals. They’re probably afraid they don’t end up with anybody unless they overpay like they did with Werth.

I understand the reluctance of selling low on Wright, but I don’t see the Mets competing any time in the near future.

Mets need to clean house and make the commitment to rebuild this team. Trade Wright to the Angels for Trout-CF, and Cowart-3b. Trade Santana mid year to the Reds for Grandel-C and Frazier-SS-OF. and Leake. Trade Bay and pay 60%of his contract to the Braves for Visciano. Trade Pelfrey to the Orioles for Adam Jones. Something like this would be the direction I would go with the Mets. There are many other young players and combinations that would make them a good team in a few years. The Mets can’t try to stay in the middle. The best thing would be if the Wilpon’s sell the team.

I was responding to Oakfan22’s offer. I would only trade Gio to the Angels only for Mike Trout and only Mike Trout.

I seriously dont understand the Mets…they have no plan whatsoever. You dont shop Reyes around aggressively last offseason and now you get a third round pick for him. They got more than that for Beltran! The Bay deal was horrible and Im sure many people could have predicted that one. Pagan had some value and they didnt trade him. Are they rebuilding or not? They are like a drunk teenage girl at a party puking all over the place. I feel so bad for their fans. Trade Wright now and just rebuild if you  are trying to save money. Shouldnt they learn from the reyes situation? The same could happen with wright…How do the owners expect to make any type of profit when they arent even showing the fans they have a plan for the team. Its simply pathetic, I wish the mlb could just take the team away from the wilpons and put it up for auction. Sorry for the rant lol, they are my 2nd favorite team and its irritating.

There’s no rush to make a decision on Wright.

His value is already at an all time low, so if he doesn’t rebound in the first half of 2012, you just trade him at the break for whatever you can get.

There was no rush with Reyes and it didnt turn out well. Midseason came and they obviously had no playoff hopes, yet they didnt shop him aggressively. His value is at a low but whatever they get now is more than what they will if they let him walk after the season. Plus if they start shopping him around now they can see who is interested and who knows maybe one team will blow them away. The problem with the management is that they seem really stubborn and I dont understand the reluctance to shop Wright…Shop him around see what you can get now if you dont like any of the deals at least you can get an idea of the potential clubs that may want him and then if he has a good first half, call them back.

3b is the weakest position at this time as far as players available. Many teams like the Angels, Cubs,Jays,  Dodgers, Phils, and even the Sox  and others might be looking for third basemen. It might be a good time to move Wright.

Plus we have Daniel Murphy and Zach Lutz to slot in at 3B.

Venom pointed out that Wright actually has a team option for 2013 so they can keep him this year or trade him midseason for a better return. Thats if he improves his offensive numbers of course, which the walls coming in a bit should help.

Reagins was trying to trade Aybar for Reyes straight up last year. Mets should have took that one since he still is under team control for another year.

Well Aybar isnt enough straight up but if they added a couple of nice pitching prospects I dont see why the Mets wouldnt take that.

How wasn’t that not a good deal? It was at the trade deadline in SUmmer, Mets were out of it and Reyes was leaving at the end of the year. Aybar is still under team contract for one more year but instead of Aybar, the mets now have a 3rd round draft pick?! I’m glad it didn’t happen because I want the Halo’s to extend Aybar.

Wright’s option year for 2013 can be voided if traded. So basically the Mets options are…..

      A) Trade Wright now, in essentially a contract year, while selling low.

      B) Enjoy another year of Wright in a Mets uniform, in a rebuilt Citi Field more suited for his abilities, and have an opportunity to sell him a year from now, in essentially a contract year, with a chance to sell high instead.

Pretty easy to see Plan B is the better option out of those two.

….or, they could just keep him and try to sign him to an extension. They’re going to have to pay somebody, at some point. They only have like 8.5 million committed for 2014, and that’s all buyouts.

Wait what? Hes a free agent after this upcoming season…Enjoy him for a year at Citi and let him walk like Reyes?

No, he has a team option for 2013, that becomes voided if traded. So the Mets control him for 2 years, but any other team would only control him for 1 year.

Ohh missed that part. Just saw him on the list of 2013 free agents. So thats good but they should without a doubt trade him midseason this season or next offseason. I would also take a risk on Darvish or Cespedes if I were the Mets. But I dont see them spending that kind of money.

Montero = DH which are easy to get.  The A’s need a CF or 3b.  McCarthy for Montero is the counter offer.
