Braves Acquire Jeff Baker From Tigers

By Zachary Links | August 31, 2012 at 7:18pm CDT

The Tigers announced that they have traded Jeff Baker to the Braves for a player to be named later.  The 31-year-old was designated for assignment earlier today to make room for Avisail Garcia on the roster.

Baker appeared in 15 games for the Tigers this month after he was acquired from the Cubs.  The veteran has played second base and all four corner positions this year, while posting a line of .254/.293/.408 in 181 total plate appearances.  For his career, Baker boasts a strong batting line of .298/.346/.505 against left-handers.

PTBNL for this high quality of a player should be Teheran I suspect. Or a signed Chipper Jones jersey…

No, just for once I would like the Tigers to get on the better side of a trade with the Braves. Smoltz for Doyle. Jurrjens for Renteria (granted JJ has fallen off but he was worth well more than the awful season ER had for us). I suppose Baker will go on to win MVP somehow for the Braves lol

Lefty masher with some power? This guy had Braves written all over him the moment he was released.

No such “power” or “masher” in Bakers’ bat

117 AB sample size > 634 career ABs? Got it. Hanley Ramirez is now a .250 hitter instead of .300?

so it’s fair to base the rest of this season on only this season and not the rest of his career?

What he is does his career numbers have to do with what he is doing RIGHT NOW? He is terrible, flat out.

Braves are getting serious this year. Subtle but effective moves for a playoff run. If Fredi can’t get it done this year, ditch him.

Too bad the Braves don’t have a RH bat in AAA who was just named International League Rookie of the year as well as best power hitting prospect in AAA by Baseball America. Oh, wait…….they do but the Braves would rather have a veteran scrub than a young guy who can mash LHP.
