Miley, Bauer, Skaggs, Corbin and many others have much higher upside than Kennedy. He has proven this season that he’s a number 3 option on a good team and maybe a number 2 option on a poor team. He’s not an ace. Last season was an anomaly. If he had negotiated an extension at the beginning of the season, he’d have gotten much more than he’ll get this offseason. I don’t see teams lining up to sign him to a big time contract. Also, keep in mind that while he was serviceable in Arizona, he choked under the lights in New York (not to mention the big stage of the playoffs last year). He’s of those ‘those guys’.

I think that someone will overspend (like the Royals) on Kennedy..say in the 5 yr 60 million range

He’s not a FA until 2016. No one has any idea what type of pitcher he will be then.
Kennedy will get a low-ball long term offer from Arizona this off-season. If he doesn’t take it he will likely be traded before he ever gets to FA.

Hudson wishes he would have talked “extension” before the injury. So let’s hope Huddy comes back healthy. I imagine Kennedy and Upton will be traded in the offseason.

Greinke would/will cost too much considering how much LA already has committed. probably lower sights to an Anabel Sanchez, maybe lower to Edwin Jackson even if they are willing to play a waiting game with boras.
Greinke is probably going to cost 18-20mAAV over 5Y and that is too much considering the money they have going out over the next several years as it is. Sanchez and Jackson both probably can be had on 3-4Y deals max at 12-14m per and with Sanchez there is stability in his numbers even, no dramatic gains/dropoffs except in the support he was given by the marlins.

You are one of the few who thinks that Frank McCourt still owns the Dodgers! I mean, hasn’t the last month changed your mind at all about how much the Dodgers are willing to spend?
johnsilver
How is that? it is some economics involved in the process.
Sanchez and jackson are not that much lesser of a talent, but the cost + years figure to be far less.

No doubt, but I would say the lesson of the last few weeks is that no player is out of the Dodgers’ price range. At least that what I take away from recent events. I know this radical change in ownership capabilities is giving a lot of baseball fans a serious case of whiplash. No less so for Dodger fans, I assure you.

Not surprised that Scott Boras didn’t call back—he likes to take players into free agency. I would not be surprised if Kennedy goes to arbitration in all of his arbitration-eligible years.
