Indians Designate Juan Uribe For Assignment

By Tim Dierkes | August 1, 2016 at 2:19pm CDT

The Indians designated third baseman Juan Uribe for assignment, according to an announcement from the team.  The move clears a roster spot for new acquisition Brandon Guyer, acquired in a trade with the Rays today.  Uribe, 37, posted a .206/.259/.332 line in 259 plate appearances for the Indians this year, tallying over 500 innings at the hot corner.  The team had signed the beloved veteran to a $4MM free agent deal in February.

The Mets announcers said yesterday that they should have resigned him. A an insurance to Wright and the fact he loosened up the clubhouse

Ah man. If only Uribe knew how to lean in to a pitch to get on base like the little sh!t that is Brandon Guyer he would still have a job.

If he’s 37 then Vin Scully has to be in his 40s. Uribe has to be pushing 50 in US years

Same way Luis Tiant was only in his mid 30’s all those years he was winning 20 games during the mid 70’s. Nobody can verify the age of people from those islands and who knows how long it will be before it is able to.

    So, back to Mets, perhaps?
Reyes is on the DL, Flores has to play short. Matt Reynolds is not the answer that short. Re-sign Uribe?

The only problem with Uribe is that he’s not much of a fielder, although that does fit with the theme of the roster

They should’ve waived him. I’ve been saying all along that Uribe is not the answer. I’ve been waiting for Brantley to get healthy but I’ve given up on that. They should put José Ramirez at 3B, Rajai Davis in LF, and against RHP put Lonnie in RF and vs. LHP put Guyer there

Someone will sign him to a minors deal. He’ll end up on someone’s roster after an injury
