“Jeff todd will receive a $500k raise in arbitration, which falls well short of his projected $1.2”

Wow as a Mariners fan I just got excited all over again by all of the comparables mentioned in this article.

I hate reading this right before going to sleep. Now I am going to have Chone Figgins nightmares all night long. I am usually a glass half full type, but every so often with Dipoto I get the Figgins nightmares. I can see Segura stinking up Safeco and Walker and Marte both being perennial All Stars. Or maybe the Adam Jones trade even though that one was worse at least Bedard didn’t forget how to pitch he was hurt. Figgins just plain forgot how to play BB. It is nice to see 3 players you trade make the all stars and the one you get can’t finish a full year out of what was it 3 or 4? We have had some brilliant GMs hopefully Dipoto’s moves work for the most part. I will hate to see Gohara come back and kill us if Smyly doesn’t bounce back.

That was a different GM when Figgings was signed.

Dipoto doesn’t seem the type to hang onto his mistakes forever the way Jack Z did.

Chone Figgins was 32 years old when he played his first game for Seattle.
Jean Segura will be barely 27 years old when he plays his first game for the Mariners.
Segura should be entering his prime while Figgins was post-prime.

there was a great article near the end of last season where Jean Segura credited working with Robinson Cano last offseason as the biggest reason for his breakout in 2016. now they are on the same squad in 2017, I’d feel at least a bit more confident that Segura can sustain it in 2017
