Calling it right now: Red Sox will miss the playoffs, with the Rays and Royals/Indians (one will win the duvision) winning the wild card. The Yankees will win the division. Yankees vs. Dodgers W.S. bound!

Nah Astros and Indians are still the teams to beat in the AL. But then again predicting who will get to the world series is a crapshoot

The Indians have a better win percentage than the Yankees and are currently like 8 or 9 over .500. What are you talking about?

The Indians are built for the postseason and will win their division easily. Try paying attention to baseball.

The Royals have been turning up the heat on the Indians I wouldn’t say the Indians are a lock to win that division.

Red Sox still have a very solid team they are just in a slump right now every team goes through them. The Red Sox will be just fine they will make the playoffs.

Not if they don’t start playing better. Outside of Sale the team has looked lousy since the all star break. They need to start winning series.

Yes they have been slumping on offense and if they continue to hit under .200 since the All star break like they have been then yes they will miss the playoffs but I’m betting there offense gets hot at some point and with their pitching are going to go on a hot streak.

The closest that the Sox will get to the playoffs is watching on a large screen tv. They go down as the seasons’ worst prediction.

Sale trade looks good. Paying the price for the bad Price signing, which will go down as one of the worst signings in MLB history. Plus bad team chemistry with Panda, Hanley “sore shoulder DH” and sour puss Price. Missing Papi’s bat and rule of the clubhouse, the “me’s” have taken over.

        No power
        Not enough offense
        No leadership

Too early to tell if the Price signing will be one of the worst. The signing of A-Rod was much worse, back then, and in hindsight. Way too early to judge the signing.

Worse? A-Rod did help the team to the playoffs several times. Yes, his last year and a half or so sucked, but NYY did get a fair amount of value out of him.

I agree. Yankee fan here ecstatic about Sonny Gray. All this does is makes the AL East interesting. Not a slam dunk for the Sox. Once post season hits. All bets are off. Everyone 0-0. Astro lead of 20 games is irrelevant

Nope, Sox will take the division before August is over (as long as Price comes back) while I think the Rays may just take the 2d wild card spot from the Yanks. The Bombers have a hell of a pen but they still have on.y 2 pitchers guaranteed to get them to the 6th …

Agree about Boston. They’ve peaked and their lack of hitting is more prevalent now than before. They need power next season. Adding Reed is okay, but Callahan was far too much to yield. They have to dump Farrell, who has done nothing to hold them together, and deal with Price the best way they can.

Sorry to burst your bubble however it will not be easy for them to make the playoffs. This team is poorly constructed and there is bad chemistry in the clubhouse without Papi. Plus there are no batters that cause any fear.

hmm. Sonny Gray is LISTED at 5′-10″ – which means he’s probably 1-2″ shorter. With a past arm injury and sub-par so far this season – and RH to boot. Are Yanks that desperate? I’ll be surprised if this guy stays healthy a full season, tho hope for his sake he does….
As for L.A.D., they pulled trigger on Darvish because they’re concerned Kershaw can’t rebound this season. Out 6 weeks, which puts him on track for mid-Sept tune ups. A back issue is very iffy, esp for pitcher. Think they had to trade to keep fan base mollified…. what would happen if Kershaw missed playoffs and LAD went with staff sans Darvish? Ugly!

You forgot to mention that the Yanks got Gray for 2 injured minor leaguers, 1 with a serious knee injury and 1 with TJ surgery. Can’t be sure they will fully recover although I hope they both do. They also sent a minor leaguer who just this season started playing the outfield.

I agree, I think the trade of two injured players is risky, but I don’t think it matters for the Yankees they’re very deep still, three top 12 Prospects for Gray with a nice haul for Billy Beane if they all pan out

Pedro Martinez was about the same height as Gray and we all know how his career turned out so height has nothing to do with it.

Pedro was 5’11” Gray may be 5’9″. Maybe with his cleats on. He was standing next to Altuve at a game against the Astros and there was not much difference in height if any.

Only 2 pitchers 5’10” or under have started 20 or more games in a season after age 28 in the past 50 years. Not a good sign. He also has a hitch in his mechanics we used to call scap loading and they call an inverted W nowadays where the elbows are higher than the ball hand when the front foot hits. It gives the pitcher added velocity, but has proven to lead to injuries.

Semantics. The article stated, “moves of the last few days”.

There’s certain to be a more comprehensive list and evaluation of all the deals made this past month leading up to the non-waiver trade deadline, or at least dating back to the All-Star break like the Jose Quintana deal.

That Yankees rotation is strong now with the 6 starting pitchers they have.

Severino and Gray are clearly the aces of the staff.

Sabathia and Garcia andMontgomery have been consistent.

Tanaka is capable of having very good games as evidenced by his last outing against Tampa Bay.

I can tell you dont watch a lot of Yankee baseball. CC is a legitimate option every time out. Tanaka is back to being himself, so thats a legit 1-2-3 of Severino, Gray and Tanaka. You cant sneeze at Jaime and CC as back end rotation options. Yankees are set up for a post season run for sure, and we still dont have Hicks or Starlin in our lineup. Good luck Sox.

Red Sox should had added another bat, a power bat sincerely. I feel the team is a good one, but I don’t see them winning the Division, more like the Wild card. I have to address that I would had personally sold some pieces, despite being a good team I don’t feel they are ready.
