Giants Sign Ryan Klesko
According to the AP, the Giants have signed Ryan Klesko to a one-year deal.
Rich Aurilia will be the primary first baseman in San Francisco, but could certainly be needed at second base for 20+ games. Klesko can squeeze in at first as well as play a little left field, DH during interleague, and pinch-hit.
Back in October, Klesko said he was feeling the best he has since the first half of 2003. He hit .262/.361/.520 with 19 HR before the break that year. He finally has two healthy shoulders and no neck problems. I like the signing. It's like the poor man's version of last year's Frank Thomas signing.

This hardly makes sense for the Giants. It's redundancy. And yet another older vet that really won't make much of a difference for the Giants chances next year. *sigh*

In the National League???
I guess thats seeing the bright side.

yet another absolutely meaningless transaction.

Like i said , now iverson can show melo how to get coaches to hate him and play selfish, and melo can show iverson how to sneak around and throw cheap shots while hiding behind a coach, then running away as fast as u can, and getting punked by a guy who is 5'9. I love iverson tho

It's crazy how it's not in the least bit cliche to slam the Giants for signing past their prime veterans.
Dave Roberts
Omar Vizquel
Ray Durham
Barry Bonds
Ryan Klesko
Rich Aurilla
Bengie Molina
Randy Winn
Doesn't get much older.

I don't know why you would slam them for Bonds or Vizquel.

I like it a lot. I wish the Yankees signed him. It's not meaningless in the least, because if he actually plays against righties, he can pretty easily put up an OPS in the high 800s.

I wouldn't be shocked if a healthy Klesko gives us .275/18/60 in 2007. In all honesty, if Atlanta had traded LaRoche, I was hoping that Klesko would sign with them, put Scott Thorman at 1B, with Klesko as his backup. He could even play some LF, since the Braves have yet to find anyone. I think Matt Diaz deserves a chance.

yo, wmk51, you wont see carmelo because he's suspended. That was a awsome fight.

Cant slam them for Bonds or Vizquel.....or Durham for that matter, he might be one of the better signings of the offseason for the money (although he could very well tear his hamstring walking to the gym tomorrow).
I dont mind the Klesko signing......but Magowan definetly lied to fans by saying that they were goign to get younger this year.

I never slammed them specifically for Bonds or Vizquel, simply the big picture as a whole.
I figured Klesko would DH somewhere if he kept playing since his age and worn down body could be a liability in the field.

If I were a Giants fan I'd be pissed. I live in the Bay Area, grew up an A's fan but liked the Giants because they were the other local team, McGowan and Sabean have COMPLETELY killed all my "good feelings" toward that organization, I stopped going to any games 2 years ago, what a typical wasteful signing.....
The only two I've liked have been Omar Vizquel and Bengie Molina(that guy used to KILL the A's, ugh). I'm going to be so irritated if they sign Zito...
Hey, at least Dave Roberts is younger then Steve Finley and Aurilia is younger then Moises Alou. Is Bengie younger then Schmidt? LoL

Buster Olney reports that the Giants will be holding a 5 PM press conference to announce the signings of Bobby Witt and Jessee Orosco.

Makes complete sense to me. The Giants only like old guys anyway.
Where's Jose Mesa? Let's resurrect Cecilo Guante....
Will Clark should join them too. And Bobby Thompson.

lol. why not bring back Big Cat. Man the giants are soooo old! How many homers you guys think barry will hit this year? I'm thinking between 25-30. You already know he's gonna sit out ALOT!

nice link there nys maine man!! if the mets do sign zito which it seems they will then the mets will certainly be hard to beat. that seems like a pretty good deal for both sides if the deal is as said for 6 years and just under 100mil. Now that makes me scared about how much were gonna have to shed out to keep zambrano.

hey apparently reports are Randy Johnson may be on the blocks...he would certainly fit in with the "Wheeze Kids II" they are putting together up in 'frisco.

Dont sign Zito for 6/100, that so ridiculous. Its like a funny joke that nobody realizes is a joke. 6/100 for Zito???
Offer him 4/55 with options and incentives and all this stuff that could get him up to his 6/90, giving him that kind of money is gaurunteed is so bad.
Posted by: nrmax88 | December 20, 2006 at 12:00 AM
And if he says no then buy him a plane ticket and send him to Texas and tell him thanks for coming
Posted by: nrmax88 | December 20, 2006 at 12:00 AM
Wait, THIS is a poor man's version of signing Big Hurt? Haha. Yeah right.
Posted by: skye | December 20, 2006 at 08:04 AM
This really is a poor man's version of the Thomas signing.
